No. 7 Corban Volleyball Sweeps No. 14 Eastern Oregon in La Grande

LA GRANDE, Ore. – In a rematch of last year's 2020 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament Championship match, the No. 7-ranked Corban University volleyball team turned in a dominant performance on the road against No. 14-ranked Eastern Oregon University on Saturday evening. The Warriors downed the Mounties in straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-17), marking the first time since 2017 that EOU has been swept inside of the Quinn Coliseum.

"We came in with a game plan and we knew we had to execute it," said head coach Kim McLain. "We knew we couldn't let up against a well-coached and strong EOU team. This win is a tribute to each player pushing each other in practice, as well as a tribute to their determination, resilience, and their ability to play for one another."

Eastern claimed the first point of the match, and that would be the only time the Mounties possessed a lead for the remainder of the contest. Corban led wire-to-wire in the second and third sets, winning the highly anticipated NAIA top-15 matchup in dominating fashion.

Just one night after holding College of Idaho to a negative team hitting percentage for the first time in the rally scoring era, the Warriors limited the potent EOU attack to an .054 clip on Saturday evening—the lowest mark of the season for the program.

Rylee Troutman's 11 kills and .276 attacking percentage helped propel the Navy and Gold to victory. Avari Ridgway (nine kills), Ally Tow (seven kills), Sarena Bartley (seven kills, .333 hitting percentage), and Allyson Reid (five kills, .400 attack percentage) all played pivotal offensive roles, as well.

Four Warriors—Reid (6), Cora Furman (4), Ridgway (3), and Tow (3)—were in on at least three blocks, lending to the Navy and Gold's suffocating defensive presence.

Kealani Ontai's game-high 15 digs were also invaluable towards that cause, while Jadyn Mullen (18 assists) and Ciarra Judson (16 assists) helped run the relentless Warrior attack.

It's hard to imagine a better start to CCC competition for the Warriors, who move to 8-0 (2-0 CCC) on the season after sweeping a rigorous road weekend to kick off conference play.

The Navy and Gold will continue its CCC docket next weekend, traveling to Portland for matches with Warner Pacific University on September 10 (7 p.m.) and Multnomah University on September 11 (5 p.m.).
