CALDWELL, Idaho. – The Corban University women's basketball team was defeated by College of Idaho on Friday evening by a final score of 72-55. The Warriors shined in the third quarter of the contest, outscoring the Yotes, 21-11 but were unable to snag the lead.
"That was an amazing run in the second half to cut the lead to four. The team showed their usual resiliency and never say die effort." Head coach Bill Pilgeram said after tonight's game.
The Warriors trailed by six after the first quarter and looked to pick some momentum in the second quarter. Unfortunately, it was the Yotes who took the momentum shooting their night's best of 53% allowing them to outscore the Warriors 22-12. The Navy and Gold, however, shined in the third quarter of the contest, outscoring the Yotes, 21-11. Corban's momentum started with Gemma LaVergne sinking two from deep in the first minutes of play. The Warriors were able to get within four points of the Yotes, before College of Idaho pulled away and sealed their 14th win of the season.
Turnovers proved troublesome for the Navy and Gold as they were forced to commit 16 turnovers in the contest. College of Idaho capitalized on their extra opportunities winning the points off turnover battle by a count of 18-3.
LaVergne led the offensive attack for Corban with a team high 18 points, while also chipping in an impressive nine rebounds. Meanwhile, Madison Hodnett (12 PTS, 11 REB) added another double-double to her season tally.
For College of Idaho, Sienna Riggle led all scorers with 20 points in the game. She was joined in the double-digit scorer category by Lexi Mitchell (14), Kaylee Krusemark (12), and Emma Anderson (10).
Corban (4-18, 3-12) will return to the court tomorrow at Eastern Oregon (15-8, 12-3). Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.
