Corban Women’s Soccer Springs Back to Winning Ways with Victory at Rocky Mountain

BILLINGS, Mont. – After a long 2-day trip to the east, the Corban University Women's Soccer team (8-2-3, 4-1-3) began their weekend in Montana with a 2-0 shutout win against the Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears (2-8-3, 0-6-2) at Wendy's Field.

"We battled against a tough Rocky side today and were able to push ahead with a few moments of brilliance," Warriors' Head Coach Whitney Pitalo shared shortly after the victory.

"I'm proud of the team's performance. I have also been impressed with the way the team has traveled so far. The team has been having a lot of fun together and it's great to see!" Pitalo concluded.

The Warriors struck first in the 34th minute, as junior defender Jamine Biava was granted a penalty kick opportunity following a Battlin' Bears foul in the penalty box. Biava connected on the attempt for her team-leading fifth goal of the season, providing the Warriors with a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.

Just 20 seconds into the second half, junior forward Maria Juarez was able to find the back of the net for her second score this year. The Warriors possessed the kickoff and immediately sent the pressure straight to the penalty box. Rocky Mountain just wasn't prepared for a cross from junior forward Fatima Jimenez, who found Juarez streaking into the box and slid the ball under the arms of Bears' goalkeeper Mila Allison with ease.

Consistent offensive pressure and solid defense kept the Bears out of their gameplan the entire day, as Corban's junior goalkeeper Makida Herbert (8-2-3) picked up her seventh shutout of the season by hauling in four saves against Rocky Mountain. Biava kept the pressing the issue on Corban's offensive possessions to lead the team in shots (4) and shots on goal (2). Jimenez earned her team-high third assist of the season on Juarez' score.

Allison (1-8-3) denied five Warrior' shots on goal, but took the loss by allowing two goals, one to Biava and one to Juarez. Midfielder Halle Labert led Rocky Mountain offensively with three shots, with one of them on goal.

The Corban Women's Soccer team will hit the road tonight to reach Great Falls, Montana for their second CCC game of the weekend, as the Argos of the University of Providence will host the Warriors for a 1pm MT kickoff tomorrow afternoon.
