GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Corban University Women's Soccer team (9-2-3, 5-1-3) will be heading back to Salem after another shutout in Montana, this time denying the Argos of the University of Providence (2-9-1, 2-6-1) from scoring on their home field, while netting four goals of their own to tie their season-high in a contest.
Corban managed to strike first on a set piece corner kick opportunity in the 14th minute, as the short dump off to senior midfielder Aubrey Smith gave her the opportunity to send the ball into the box from the left-hand side, where junior defender Jamine Biava knocked a header past the diving hands of UP goalkeeper Kaitlyn Sisler. The initial goal of the contest is Biava's sixth and Smith's second assist of the season.
Junior forward Fatima Jimenez doubled the Warriors lead just moments later, as the Salem native flew past the Argos' defensive line to knock the ball through Sisler's legs, netting her second goal of the year in the process.
The Warriors continued to plaster the goal in the first half, attempting 15 shots and 10 on goal. Jimenez had four shots at the halftime break, with three of them either being scored or saved by Sisler.
Biava struck again in the second half, this time from roughly 15 yards outside the penalty box for an impressive strike that grazed right over Sisler's gloves for her second goal of the contest. Senior midfielder Mei Suetsugu earned her first assist of the season by finding Biava in the middle of the field by herself for the easy shot attempt.
The Warriors picked up their fourth and final goal of the day thanks to a cross from senior midfielder Kaleigh Haworth, who sent the ball ahead to sophomore forward Makali Nance, who beat her defender and Sisler for her second goal of the year.
Corban dominated the offensive side of the ball all afternoon, getting shots off at will against the Argos to finish with 28 shots on the day, with 18 of them on goal. The Warriors also held a heavy advantage in the corner kick department, as they had eight attempts today compared to the Argos' single try.
Warriors' junior goalkeeper Makida Herbert (9-2-3) picked up yet another shutout by hauling in three saves, as her defensive line allowed hardly any UP opportunities to come her way. Biava, Jimenez, and sophomore forward Alysia Alvarado all led the Warriors with four shots apiece, with Nance and junior forward Maria Juarez joining Biava and Fatima with three shots on goal for the quartet.
Sisler took the loss by allowing four goals to three different Warriors this afternoon, stopping 13 shots on goal to lead the game in saves. Midfielder Danielle Chang led the Argos with three shots, one of which was denied by Herbert.
Senior Weekend awaits the Corban Women's Soccer team next week, as the Warriors return how to host Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon University at 12:30pm on both Friday and Saturday, respectively.
