SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Soccer team (10-2-3, 6-1-3) clinched a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Playoffs this afternoon via a 2-0 shutout of Oregon Tech (4-4-4, 3-3-3), as the Warriors blanked the Owls for their third-straight win via the shutout.
"The team played for each other today and it was fun to see them dominate to get the result they wanted," Warriors' Head Coach Whitney Pitalo said shortly after the contest concluded. "The team is mentally and physically looking strong going into our final home game tomorrow."
After a scoreless first half, both the Warriors and Owls were looking for an opportunity to finally convert on the offensive end, with Corban finally breaking the scoreless tie in the 66th minute. Senior midfielder Sabrina Eiley scored her first goal in a Warriors' uniform on Senior Weekend, as the Belize, Central America native found the back of the net on an assist from junior defender Jamine Biava.
Biava doubled the Warriors lead in the 81st minute, scoring on a penalty kick opportunity after a foul was drawn in the Owls' penalty box. The goal was Biava's eighth of the season, keeping her in the running for the conference scoring crown.
Warriors' junior goalkeeper Makida Herbert (10-2-3) was tested just three times this afternoon, earning her eighth solo shutout of the year and third straight shutout in the net. Owls' goalkeeper Halle Adair (1-2-1) earned six saves today, allowing the two goals to Eiley and Biaba to take her second loss of the season.
Corban's offense shined today in creating opportunities, as the Warriors outshot OIT 12-8, while holding an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore forward Alysia Alvarado and freshman forward Carley Diaz each had three shots to lead the squad, while Alvarado and Biava each had a pair of shots that weathered Adair.
Six of the Owls' eight shots today came from the feet of forward Sylvia Sloss and midfielder Maddie Miller, who each also had a shot on goal to account for over two-thirds of Oregon Tech's offensive opportunities.
The Corban Women's Soccer team will return to the OAC one final time this 2022 season tomorrow afternoon, as the Warriors will host Southern Oregon University (7-4-3, 6-1-2) for their Senior Day match in front of the Warrior Faithful, with kickoff scheduled for 12:30pm PDT.
