Warriors Drop Home Finale to Raiders

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Soccer team (10-3-3, 6-2-3) dropped their final home game of the 2022 season this afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex, as a single goal is all that was needed for the Southern Oregon University Raiders (8-4-3, 7-1-2) to leave Salem with a road victory.

"The team battled through a tough match today against SOU," Corban Head Coach Whitney Pitalo said earlier today. "We dropped points, but I'm proud of the team's response in the second half. We are looking forward to finishing conference strong entering the tournament."

In one of the most evenly matched contests of the season, the Warriors and Raiders turned in nearly identical stat sheets, with the Raiders' 54th minute goal being the difference maker in an otherwise gridlocked performance by both squads.

Following a scoreless first half, Southern Oregon finally broke the tie with a cross from midfielder Mia Santander, who found forward Sarah Mauk after a miscommunication in Corban's penalty box that allowed Mauk to score the game-winner with ease.

Try as the Warriors might, a Senior Day victory just wasn't written in the stars for Corban, who took just as many shots and even two more shots on goal than the Raiders but failed to find the back of the net.

Warriors' junior goalkeeper Makida Herbert (10-3-3) took only her third loss of the season on the 0-1 final score, nabbing a pair of saves to keep the Raiders out of rhythm as much as possible. Raiders' goalkeeper Jessie Selby snagged five saves to lead Southern Oregon to the road shutout.

Corban junior defender Jamine Biava and senior midfielder Aubrey Smith each provided two shots today, while each of them and three other Warriors all provided a shot on goal. Mauk led the Raiders with five shots and all three shots for SOU against Herbert.

The Warriors will play their final CCC match this upcoming Saturday, October 29th, when they travel down the I-5 Interstate for a battle with the Bushnell University Beacons (0-16-0, 0-11-0) at 4:30pm PDT.
