Warrior Women’s Soccer Tallies Program Record Twelfth Shutout in Victory Over Beacons

EUGENE, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Soccer team (11-3-3, 7-2-3) closed out the regular season against the Bushnell University Beacons (0-17, 0-12), recording their 12th shutout of the year in a 3-0 decision. The victory will give the Warriors the 5th overall seed in the CCC playoffs, marking the 10th straight season that the Corban Women's Soccer program has advanced to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Playoffs.

"Proud of the team's offensive effort today," Warriors' Head Coach Whitney Pitalo said following her team's 11th victory of the season.

"We held the ball the majority of the game and put together some great pass strings. It feels amazing to have the team be honored with the school shutout record today. They are very deserving," Pitalo continued.

In a contest that the Warriors dominated from start to finish, both the offense and defense shined in a statement victory to end conference play. With the team's leading scorer on the bench, multiple Corban student-athletes stepped up to provide the team with a much-needed tune-up before postseason begins.

The scoring began in the 25th minute, when sophomore forward Alysia Alvarado received a long cross-field pass from senior midfielder Sabrina Eiley, who dribbled into the box to rip a shot into the back-left post for what would eventually be the game-winning goal.

Not even five minutes later senior midfielder Aubrey Smith recorded her third goal of the season on a cross from senior midfielder Kaleigh Haworth, who coincidentally enough, tallied her third assist of the year on the exact same play.

Eiley jumped into the scoring action once again in the 80th minute, but this time as the scorer, knocking in her second goal of the year unassisted.

The Warriors held a staggering 28-3 advantage in total shots this evening, managing 10 shots on goal and holding the Beacons to none. Junior goalkeepers Makida Herbert (11-3-3) and Malia Alonzo combined for Corban's single season shutouts record, each recording 45 minutes between the posts and facing zero shots on goal.

Alvarado and senior midfielder Mei Suetsugu each recorded six shots to lead the explosive Corban offense, with Alvarado recording the game-high in shot on goal with four in the contest.

Beacons' goalkeeper Madison Bender (0-17) hauled in seven saves against the onslaught of Warriors' shots, but allowed three goals to take the loss today. Three different Bushnell players were responsible for the three total shots by the home team this evening.

The Warriors will begin the CCC playoffs on Monday, November 7th, and will be the road team facing the 4-seed Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers. Their contest start time will be announced shortly by the conference, in a rematch that will determine who is truly the better squad, as the Warriors and Mounties dueled to a 0-0 draw earlier this year.
