Corban Women’s Basketball Downed by Southern, 74-47.

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team fell to Southern Oregon University on Friday night by a final score of 74-47. Sixteen points and 13 boards from Kami Walk helped Southern cruise to the victory.

Head coach Bill Pilgeram commented after tonight's contest, "I thought we played very hard but just weren't efficient enough on the offensive end. Give SOU credit, they are a great defensive team, but we also left a lot of opportunities on the floor with missed shots and free throws."

The Raiders were on fire in the first period, tallying 26 points on a 66.67% field-goal percentage. After that, the Warriors held the flaming Raider offense to just 11 points, while scoring 13 of their own in the second quarter. The rest of the game followed the same pattern with a strong third period for the Raiders and Corban outscoring Southern in the fourth.

Turnovers proved troublesome for Corban, and Southern took advantage scoring 27 points off the Warrior miscues.

Offensively, Holly Golenor was a menace and registered another double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds, making her the leading scorer for either team. Gemma LaVergne also fought through a dynamic SOU defense to put up eight points, and three rebounds.

Rookie Rebekah Everest made her debut as a Warrior. She went 2-2 from the field and grabbed two rebounds for the Navy and Gold.

In addition to Walk, two other members of the Raider squad were in double-digit scoring figures including Kalei Iwami and Syd'Nee Fryer.

Corban (4-20, 3-14 CCC) returns to action tomorrow night against Oregon Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
