SALEM, Ore. – After a 20-point first quarter, the Corban University women's basketball team's shooting went cold for the remainder of the squad's 78-51 defeat at the hands of Oregon Tech on Saturday.
Corban shot at an even 50 percent clip in the first quarter, but registered just a 27.2% clip from the floor for the remainder of the contest.
"Our girls are grinding and improving every game," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "Even though we didn't shoot well, there were some very bright spots, especially in the leadership of our three seniors who will be celebrating senior night next week. Kaci Paffhausen, Gracie McCoy, and Keila Tsutsui continue to lead by example in everything they do."
Oregon Tech landed four players in double figures, led by Shelby Blodgett's 15 points and seven rebounds, which both served as team-leading marks. Olivia Sprague (13 PTS, 8 AST, 7 STL) was invaluable on both sides of the ball, and Abby Kreiser (12 PTS, 6 AST, 6 REB), and Maddyson Tull (10 PTS, 5 REB) filled up the stat sheet, as well.
For Corban, it was the squad's powerhouses down low that shined brightest in the loss, as Madison Hodnett led all players with 17 points on Saturday. She also added 10 boards, earning her fifth double-double of the 2021-22 campaign. Holly Golenor has nine double-doubles of her own after Saturday's contest, finishing the game with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
"Holly continues to be an unstoppable force when she gets catches in good position," Pilgeram said of Golenor's performance.
In the back court, McCoy led the Warriors with four assists. Coming off the bench, Alyssa Wyllie added eight points.
Corban (4-21, 3-15 CCC) will finish out its final homestand of the year next weekend, welcoming Walla Walla University on Friday (12 p.m. start time) and Lewis-Clark State College for Senior Day on the following afternoon (3 p.m. start time).
