SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women's lacrosse team secured the first victory on their home turf on Saturday afternoon beating the Eastern Oregon University Mounties, 19-6. Impressive performances from Sydney Davis and Geneen Impreso propelled the Warriors to their historic win.
"I think we showed some patient offensive composure on the field today," head coach Kylie McMinn commented. "We took advantage of turnovers and unsettled situations and it resulted in a win for us."
Devyn Davis started the scoring for the Navy and Gold in the ninth minute of play, and then answered with another just 25 seconds later. Corban took that lead and never looked back. Eastern Oregon demonstrated their toughness, fitness, and grit all throughout the game but were unable keep up with Corban's speedy midfield including Josie Brence (3G, 1A), Meredith Pinkerton (G, 1A), and Sarah Whitbey (G).
McMinn added, "We are grateful for the hustle and heart of Eastern's program. They showed so much growth and fought hard despite the circumstances. We are looking forward to playing them again in a couple of weeks, hopefully at full strength."
The Warriors displayed their offensive depth in their victory yet again by boasting seven different scorers. Impreso's four goals earns her a career-high mark, while S. Davis tied her season-high with five goals scored. D. Davis and Brence found the back of the net three times apiece and freshman Aleana Godoy tallied two of her own.
Eastern Oregon's Kate McAfee and Claire Bever led the way for the Mounties in the defeat.
Warrior goalkeeper Payton Nuse recorded a single save in the contest and earned her second win of the season. She was assisted in the backfield by Corban's strong defense.
Corban (2-1) will be back in action on March 19 when they host the University of Puget Sound. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
