Corban Softball Outlasted by Raiders on Friday

ASHLAND, Ore. – The Corban University softball team traveled to Ashland to take on the defending National Champions at Southern Oregon University. The Raiders, while not as near the top of the conference as they have been in recent years, still dominate offensively and make their presence felt in every series. The home team took game one 9-1, and game two 11-3 in five innings.

Southern got off to a hot start with back-to-back doubles that resulted in enough momentum to plate three runs in the first. The Warriors saw their first baserunner when Paia'ala Wilcox-Molina walked in the second. A Raider triple off the bat of Lindsay Stripling scored Piper Love to take a 4-0 lead in the third.

In the top of the fourth, Maddie Ogles reached via a free pass. California Johnson pinch ran and Madison Wyllie bunted her over to second for Kaycee Arase to score the Warriors' only run with a double to left.

SOU continued to apply pressure to the Navy and Gold defense. They totaled 13 hits which fueled a 9-1 win after six innings.

The Raider starter, Cayla Williams, has been fire for Southern Oregon as of late. She held Corban to just one hit in the contest.

Ogles started game two off with a beautiful double to deep left center, then Arase walked. Phelicity Fa'aita has been dominate for the Raiders this season recording 10 wins and 55 strikeouts prior to the contest, but Corban was hungry for baserunners and came out to prove it. Anastasia Iosia was hit by a pitch which motivated Raider head coach Jessica Pistol to make a pitching change.

Fa'aita was pulled and replaced by Katie Machado with no outs in the top of the first. Wilcox-Molina has proven to be the RBI queen for the Navy and Gold and continued her reign with a bases-clearing double in the top of the first.

Sarah Parker started in the circle for Corban, but struggled with her command. She walked three in the first and allowed one run.

Of note, SOU has seven hitters with an average over .400. The Raiders lead the conference in almost offensive every category including batting average (.387), RBIs (395), and slugging percentage (.608).

SOU tied things up in the bottom of two before Alise Olson came in to relieve Parker. A two-RBI double from Williams advanced the Raider lead to 5-3. SOU continued to exercise patience at the plate and totaled 11 runs in the game on eight walks and 14 hits including six doubles in the five innings of play.

The Warriors will return to the diamond tomorrow morning in Ashland. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
