SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Soccer team (4-1-2, 0-0-2) earned their second consecutive draw in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play, playing to a scoreless tie with No. 21 Eastern Oregon University (5-1-2, 2-0-1) in a scoreless 0-0 final score.
"The team played as a unit today and executed the game plan very well," Warriors' Head Coach Whitney Pitalo shared following the early afternoon contest.
"I'm proud of the team's performance. We were unlucky in the final third, but overall, the team played well both defensively and offensively. Goals will come with time, we are trusting the process," Pitalo went on to say.
The No. 21 Mountaineers have been shut out on just two other occasions so far this season, the first in season-opener against No. 6 Keiser University, and the second coming against NCAA DIII Whitworth University.
Both of those contest played out entirely different for EOU, as they found hardly any offensive opportunities against Keiser, but had 19 shots against Whitworth. This tie with the Warriors fits right in-between both of those narratives, as the Corban Women's Soccer team gave them all they could handle in an 11-7 shot advantage for Eastern Oregon.
The Warriors and Mountaineers all had handfuls of opportunities to score against the experienced starting goalkeepers for each squad, but the defenses stood strong the entirety of this contest to finish in a 0-0 draw.
Warriors' junior goalkeeper Makida Herbert (4-1-2) earned a game-high six saves to lead Corban to their second straight CCC tie, while Mountaineers' goalkeeper Madeline Barker (5-1-2) tallied two saves in the net for EOU.
A majority of Corban's opportunities this afternoon came on set-pieces, as the Warriors attempted five corner kicks to the Mounties' two. However, both teams saw the ball come within inches of crossing the goal line on breakaway chances as well, with multiple of the Warriors' shots just barely grazing the crossbar.
Corban' sophomore forward Alysia Alvarado led the Warriors offensively with two shots, one of which was saved by Barker. Junior forward Maria Juarez managed to get a shot off as well for Corban, this one also diverted by the EOU goalkeeper.
Eastern Oregon' midfielder Corynn Vigil led all players in shots on goal with a pair this afternoon, while midfielder Erika Skindlov logged two shots, only one of which was directed on goal.
The Warriors are back at home for the final time until a three-week road trip, hosting the (RV) College of Idaho Yotes (7-1-0, 3-0-0) in yet another conference showdown, with kickoff set for 12:30pm PDT.
