Corban Women’s Soccer Bounces Back to Win Column with Shutout at Multnomah

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Soccer team (5-1-3, 1-0-3) earned their first Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victory of the season earlier today, downing Multnomah University (1-7-0, 0-4-0) on the Lions' newly added turf field to their campus layout.

"The team played well today, we worked on adding a few new layers to our game, and I was proud of everyone's contributions," Warriors' Head Coach Whitney Pitalo shared on her team's efforts today.

The Warriors didn't waste any time in getting on the scoreboard, as junior defender Jamine Biava found the back of Multnomah's net on a rebounded shot in the penalty box, giving her a team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Despite a plethora of offensive opportunities, the Warriors ended the first half with just the solo goal from Biava, leading at the half for the first time this conference season after three straight draws to begin the conference slate.

Corban would go on to score twice more against the Lions, with the first of the two coming off the foot of junior midfielder Moe Sato, her first of the season. The first came in the 65th minute, thanks to a phenomenal pass from junior forward Fatima Jimenez from just outside the right side of the penalty box.

The third and final goal came after some pinball action in the top of the box from the Warriors and Lions, providing senior midfielder Aubrey Smith the opportunity to slice the ball right over the top of Multnomah goalkeeper Camilla Meneses Thomas.

Warriors' junior goalkeeper Makida Herbert (5-1-3), this week's NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, recorded a single save in a contest where her defensive line handled a majority of the brunt work, allowing her to pick up her sixth shutout of the season.

Corban Women's Soccer returns to the pitch tomorrow afternoon for an early Saturday contest with the Warner Pacific University Knights (4-5-1, 1-3-0) at the Eastside Timbers Sports Complex, with kickoff scheduled for 12pm PDT.
