CALDWELL, Idaho – The nationally ranked home team was just too much to handle for the Corban University Women's Soccer team, who lost only their second conference game of the season on the road this evening 5-0 to the No. 15-ranked College of Idaho Yotes.
"Definitely not the result we wanted today, but C of I is a quality team that pushed us," Corban head coach Travez Whyte shared with his insight. "Lots of growing moments for sure. I'm proud of how our ladies responded following the match, and tomorrow is another day to continue improving. Thank you to all our traveling Warriors for the support!":
College of Idaho (13-1-1, 9-0-0) wasted zero time establishing themselves and their undefeated conference record on their home field, scoring three goals in the first half alone thanks to forwards Eden Makaafi and Natasja Davis, and midfielder Madison Little. The goals for the trio of Yotes belong to the leading scorers for the program, each of which now have more than seven on the season.
Even though the Warriors (8-4-4, 6-2-2) trailed by three goals on the scoreboard, they only took one less shot overall than the Yotes in the opening half, six to five, as they found their chances and were able to take them and just no one quite finding pay dirt in forty-five minutes thus far.
The Coyotes were able to add two more goals in the second half of a home shutout of the Warriors, with midfielder Gianna Yslava and forward Abbi Roubidoux both getting in on the scoring action. This marks just the fifth time this season that Corban has been shutout, with the most recent coming at the end of September.
Junior midfielder Alysia Alvarado led the Corban offense with two shots this afternoon, while senior defender Emilly Olvera and junior forward Kelli Huskic had the Warriors' lone shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Makida Herbert accepted just her second loss of the season in the net, while Yotes' starting goalkeeper Hannah McFadden shared the clean sheet with teammate Hailey Jo Parks.
Corban women's soccer will travel back home and make a pit stop in La Grande tomorrow evening, as they'll face off with Eastern Oregon University (6-3-4, 4-3-2) with playoff seeding at stake. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30pm PT on the Mounties' Senior Day.
