SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Basketball team (12-16, 9-13) concluded their Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) regular season at home against the Oregon Tech Owls (20-8, 16-6), falling on Senior Night 66-34 in a game where they just couldn't find the bottom of the basket.
"We honored two amazing seniors tonight who have given everything to this team," Warriors' Head Coach Bill Pilgeram said earlier this afternoon. "They have been champions on and off the court, no matter the outcome."
"Everyone is 0-0 now and we will get back to work next week ready to make some noise in the CCC Tournament!" Pilgeram explained about their future schedule now that the CCC Playoffs have been set.
Prior to the start of today's matchup with the Warriors and Owls, Corban Women's Basketball acknowledged the final home game for two senior student-athletes: senior forwards Holly Golenor and Josie Beaton. Golenor has been with the program since the 2020 season, while Beaton joined the Warriors all the way back in the 2018 season, when Pilgeram originally arrived to campus.
Two polar opposite quarters and a lack of defense in the second half led to the Warriors loss this afternoon, as they originally jumped out to a 12-7 first quarter lead and watched it slowly diminish over the rest of the contest.
Scoring just five points in the entirety of the second and fourth quarters each resulted in such a flip-flopped scoreboard, as the Owls held the Warriors to a .226 field goal percentage on 12-for-53 shooting and forcing 24 team turnovers that resulted in 25 points off miscues.
Oregon Tech also took advantage in the paint, scoring 24 more points in the key compared to the Navy and Gold, who struggled all over the court to score consistently and were trying new looks each trip down the court.
Junior guard Maddie Godwin was the lone Warrior to score in double-digits, adding a pair of steals as well. Fellow junior guard Kirsten Koehnke dropped an even six points and six rebounds in Corban's final regular season game.
Forward Melissa Lee and center Maddyson Tull each hauled in eight boards for the Owls, scoring 17 and 13 points in the process, respectively. Guard Olivia Sprague was the only other OIT student-athlete in double figures with 12 points, but was responsible for almost half of the Owls' turnovers with five on the afternoon.
Following the conclusion of the tiebreaker scenarios, the Warriors will travel to No. 10 Lewis-Clark State College next Wednesday for a 5:30pm PST Quarterfinal matchup, with a trip to the next round of the CCC Tournament on the line.
