No. 1 Corban Beach Volleyball Cruises to Back-to-Back 5-0 Sweeps of Bushnell

SALEM, Ore. – Five pair sweeps have been synonymous with the No. 1-ranked Corban Beach Volleyball team (9-2) as of late, as the Warriors dominated for another pair of 5-0 dual decisions this afternoon against the Bushnell University Beacons (5-5), dropping only two sets all day to earn their eighth and ninth team wins this season.

"Bushnell continually gets better each time we see them. They are doing some really nice things as a team and are super scrappy," Corban Head Coach Diana Villalpando said shortly after her team's impressive duals wins. "Our pairs did a great job adapting and making mid game modifications to get our wins today. Time to rest up and get ready for the University of Portland tomorrow."

In the opening dual, Corban took advantage early in the two and four pairs to jump out to a 2-0 advantage overall, as senior Ally Schmidt and her partner sophomore Jessica McMillian swept the opening decision 21-17 and 21-7. Juniors Cameron and Kianna Keeling earned a comeback win over Beacons' Madi Trueblood and Roslyn McLellan, dropping the first set and storming back to earn back-to-back set wins of 21-9 and 15-10.

Senior Jolinn Daviscourt and redshirt sophomore Kalisi Latu put together a dominant exhibition pair showing in the sixth pair, posting 21-6 and 21-14 set scores over Bushnell's Mai Tomlin and Reagan Walker.

It was all sweeps from there for Corban in the first dual, as the five and three pairs each picked up quick victories and capped off the match in the top pairs with a swift 21-10 and 21-14 win for senior Avari Ridgway and Megan Dennis.

The second dual started exactly how the first dual ended, with the Warriors earning three-straight two-set sweeps against the Beacons in the second, fourth, and sixth pairs to go up 2-0 once again. The Warriors took the fifth pairs next with a two-set win from Latu and Daviscourt, securing the second match victory for Corban.

The final two matches weren't quite as easy for the Warriors, McMillian and Schmidt scrambled in both sets to earn comeback victories over Bushnell's third pair in Brooke Silvernail and Jadeya Hayes, while the top pair of Ridgway and Dennis were forced into a third set against Bushnell's Makenna Northern and Logan Kaneshiro. Corban's top duo improved to 10-1 on the season with a hard-fought win in the third set, securing the second and third 5-0 sweeps against the Beacons on the year.
