EUGENE, Ore. – Not only did the No. 1-ranked Corban University Beach Volleyball team (12-2) complete the season sweep of Bushnell University (5-6), but they did also so in stunning fashion by posting their fourth-straight 5-0 sweep over the Beacons to only allow two set wins all season long to their I-5 rivals.
"The girls did a great job of staying focused and taking care of business today," Warriors' Head Coach Diana Villalpando said earlier this afternoon. "It was a different game today with limited playing space around the courts, so we had to be much better in our quality of touches. The sand was also extremely packed and not very deep, which contributed to the game being played differently for both sides."
Villalpando continued by sharing, "We have to come back tomorrow with that same mindset; we're looking forward to playing SOU and Northwest tomorrow."
Just like in their prior meeting in Eugene earlier this month, the Warriors wasted very few opportunities to gain large leads against the Beacons, especially in the opening two and four pairs. Juniors and sisters Kiana and Cameron Keeling allowed only 15 points in their 21-8 and 21-7 thrashing of Bushnell's Roslyn McLellan and Madi Trueblood, while sophomore Maya Blake and senior Kealani Ontai took down Beacons' Laci Jespersen and Megan Netter, 21-15 and 21-13.
Corban clinched the dual the very next pair in the battle of the fives, where Warriors' Jolinn Daviscourt and Kalisi Latu earned a hard fought 21-16 and 21-11 win against Bushnell's Abby Nelson and Anessa Stotts. The only pair to see some pushback from the Beacons was in the top pair of senior Avari Ridgway and sophomore Megan Dennis, who battled to take a 22-20 first set victory before clutching out the head-to-head matchup with Makenna Northern and Logan Kaneshiro with a 21-17 set two win.
Senior Ally Schmidt and sophomore Jessica McMillian completed the final sweep of the season against Bushnell with a 21-19 and 21-17 victory over Jade Hayes and Brooke Silvernail, thus improving the team record to 12-2 on the year.
