SALEM, Ore. – In front of family, friends, and sisters for life, the No. 1-ranked Corban University Beach Volleyball team (16-3) concluded their final home tournament of the 2023 season with a pair of season sweeps of the Northwest University Eagles (3-8) and Southern Oregon University Raiders (3-9) by 5-0 final scores, celebrating their senior student-athletes at the end of the afternoon.
"Today's matches were special for a few different reasons," Warriors' Head Coach Diana Villalpando started off sharing. "We end the CCC play, but we also honored our seniors, who have given so much to this program."
Villalpando carried on by stating, "I'm so grateful for the leadership they have given to the teams over the year, and proud of the success they have found both on and off the court. Now it's time to shift gears as we head into the Cal Pac Tournament, looking to make some magic happen!"
The Warriors kicked off their senior day celebrations in style with a dominate 5-0 win over the Eagles to sweep the season matchups, as all five pairs took 2-0 decisions to post a perfect 10-0 record in sets played.
The seniors to take to the courts in match one included Avari Ridgway of the top pair, the dynamic sister duo of Kianna and Cameron Keeling in the second pair, Kealani Ontai of the third pair, Ally Schmidt of the fourth pair, and the fifth pair of Jolinn Daviscourt and Kalisi Latu.
The sweeps continued throughout the day into the second dual with SOU, as the senior-heavy lineup refused to drop a set on their special day of celebration. Ridgway and her partner, sophomore Megan Dennis, capped off a perfect afternoon with 21-12 and 21-10 decisions over Southern Oregon's top pair, Madi Gray and Skyy Nihipali-Botelh.
