Back-to-Back Sweeps for No. 1 Corban Beach Volleyball Highlights Pool Play at Cal Pac Conference Tournament

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The No. 1-ranked Corban University Beach Volleyball team (18-3) upheld their top ranking by showing why they earned the top overall seed in the 2023 Cal Pac Conference Tournament, earning 5-0 sweeps over both Benedictine University at Mesa (0-10) and Park University Gilbert (5-10) to secure the 1-seed and a first round bye in bracket play that begins tomorrow.

"Today was a good test for us," Warriors' Head Coach Diana Villalpando shared earlier this afternoon. "We had to make some adjustments with the wind from the first dual to the second dual of the day."

Villalpando continued with, "I was glad to see our pairs be the aggressors from the start, especially playing against unfamiliar teams. It's really easy to sit back and try to figure a team out, but that leave you vulnerable as well. We did a great job of finding the balance."

The Warriors began pool play by showing exactly why they're the No. 1-seed in the tournament, taking a decisive 5-0 decision and only dropping one set overall. The top pair for Corban, senior Avari Ridgway and sophomore Megan Dennis, along with the threes, fours, and fives all swept their matchups with ease over the Redhawks.

The two-pair of junior sisters Kianna and Cameron Keeling dropped their first set to Benedictine's Anna Brytkowska and Kahiau Ka'alele after a slow start but swung back with momentum at the service line to sprint to 21-11 and 15-7 scores in the final two sets.

It was smooth sailing the rest of the afternoon at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center, as the Warriors cruised to perfect 2-0 pair wins in every matchup with the Buccaneers of Park Gilbert, even in the sixth pair exhibition for senior Tyra Ching and freshman Emmi Marks. The most impressive final score came in set one of the third pair with sophomore Maya Blake and senior Kealani Ontai, who held Bucs' Jasmine Urban and Brittlee Harper to just four points in the opening set of a 21-4 and 21-13 decision.
