WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The No. 4-ranked Corban University Volleyball kept it short and sweet this evening at the Dietrich Activity Center on the campus of Walla Walla Community College, sprinting to a three-set sweep over Walla Walla University where they allowed just twenty-six points to the Wolves over the entire match.
"The team played with discipline tonight, being very intentional with each touch," head coach Kim McLain shared after their late-night bout with the Wolves. "They focused on the little things which in turn helped them to make very few unforced errors."
A day after playing a 32-30 set marathon against Lewis-Clark State College, the Warriors (13-2, 7-0) didn't allow that many points in the entire match to the Wolves (0-8, 0-7), as they trailed on only two occasions within the first four points of the second set in what was otherwise a complete domination front to back by Corban.
Tonight's match was all about the reserve players getting their opportunities to shine, as multiple Corban student-athletes recorded career and season-high marks against Walla Walla. Redshirt sophomore defensive specialist Lily Snook and freshman defensive specialist Kaile'a Ontai each posted a career-high dig totals with eight and six, respectively, while freshman middle blocker Emma Bischoff served her way to five aces in an all-around performance by the Medford native.
Sophomore opposite hitter Makayla Roginski and junior outside hitter Rylee Troutman each smashed a game-high ten kills with only one three errors between the two of them combined. As a team, the Warriors crushed a .463 attack percentage and rose their conference leading mark to .283 on the season.
A Corban student-athlete now leads the conference leaderboards in every offensive statistical category, with Bischoff leading the attack percentage class with a .367 mark, Troutman lightyears ahead of the next attacker with 209 total kills and averaging 4.02 kills per set, while sophomore setter Abby Guindy rose over the weekend to average 6.10 assists per set and now has 317 dimes on the season.
Junior setter Courtney Garwood led all players with a game-high 18 assists this evening, with Guindy adding 16 to her conference leading totals. In addition to her five service aces, Bischoff secured seven kills and four blocks at the net.
Walla Walla was led by outside hitters Jocelyn Curiel Ruiz and Femke Eising who each dropped five kills in the Wolves' efforts, with setter Danielle Faamausili earning 13 of the 16 team assists. Eising and defensive specialist Celeste Santellano both managed six digs in the backcourt to tie for the team-high mark.
The No. 4-ranked Warriors will return home before they set their sights on the southern Oregon CCC members next weekend, as they'll begin the trek at Oregon Tech (6-8, 4-3) on Friday, September 22nd with a 7pm start time on the calendar.
