KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The heat and air quality index today combined with a higher attitude certainly had an effect on the match played out on Oregon Tech's campus this afternoon, as the Corban University Women's Soccer team couldn't find the back of the net after ninty minutes of actin against the Oregon Tech Owls, resulting in a scoreless draw on OIT's campus earlier this afternoon.
"Today our ladies felt it physically, but I'm proud of them for fighting the Warrior Way until the end," Corban head coach Travez Whyte stated. "We created so many chances, but this will help us keep working on being clinical in front of the goal. Overall, it was a successful weekend away for sure. Thanking God for the growth as always."
The Warriors (3-2-4, 1-0-2) held a slight advantage throughout the first half in terms of possession and offensive chances, taking eight shots compared to five for the Owls (2-3-2, 1-2-1), with both teams logging three shots on goal, two corner kicks, and committing two fouls.
However, a scoreless draw was written in the stars from the beginning of an absolute dogfight, with both teams finding opportunities on a regular basis, yet the heat certainly took its toll on the student-athletes. Each team hit double-digits in the shots column, with Corban leading by one on both total shots and shots on goal.
Junior forward Kelli Huskic and midfielder Alysia Alvarado each had five shots today to lead all student-athletes, with redshirt freshman Delaney Fielder registering the only other shot of the day for Corban. Senior goalkeeper Makida Herbert hauled in three saves in a scoreless draw added to her record.
Owls' midfielder Kiana Jacobson took a team-high four shots today, one of which came on goal. Goalkeeper Sydni Nakamura defended four saves in her second draw result of the season.
After playing more than half of their season on the road to this point, Corban women's soccer will return to the Outdoor Athletic Complex to begin a three-week homestand, as they'll welcome the Argos of the University of Providence (2-4-1, 1-1-1) on Friday, September 29th at 3pm PT.
