OLYMPIA, Wash. – It was all Navy and Gold this afternoon in western Washington for the No. 8-ranked Corban University Volleyball team's matchup with The Evergreen State College, as the Warriors sailed to a straight-set sweep of the Geoducks via 25-8, 25-12, and 25-14 scores for their first sweep since September 14th. The entire travel roster of student-athletes that dressed for today's match saw court time at some point over a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) contest in which they only allowed 34 total points to be scored by their opponents.
"I am very proud of the way we played, focused and staying committed to the game plan!" Corban head coach Kim McLain explained. "It was definitely a team effort! We look forward to continuing this journey, growing each day as a unit!"
Both the offense and defense clicked from the very beginning for the Warriors (14-2, 10-1) in their first matchup of the 2024 season against the Geoducks (3-12, 3-8), with 17 rostered players for Coach McLain earning floor time throughout their quick work against TESC. Corban's .471 kill percentage is the highest single-match mark of the season, while 34 points scored by an opponent is the lowest point total in 2024.
Each of the three sets featured lengthy scoring runs by the Navy and Gold, most notably in the first set when the program rattled off eight-straight points that kicked off via a dump play by sophomore setter Nadeiah Howard and ended with a kill from redshirt junior middle blocker Jadah Schmidtke, assisted by Howard.
Every single Warrior with multiple attacks hit in the positive this afternoon, led by the three-headed beast of sophomore outside hitters Kendra Bittle and Emma Bischoff combined with junior opposite hitter Makayla Roginski. Bittle tallied a match-high 13 kills on a .458 attacking clip, Roginski for nine kills on .563, and Bischoff with seven kills on a .538 average along with a trio of service aces.
Junior setter Abby Guindy led the field with 26 assists, with Howard adding nine more. Defensively, senior libero Marissa Uehara secured nine digs to lead the Warriors, while Schmidtke tallied four block assists.
Libero Molly Parker was the lone Geoduck to record a game-high mark, as she led everyone in digs with 15 today, nearly half of her program's digs for the entire match. Opposite hitter Ashley Walker Campbell and outside hitter Lucendy Perez each had seven kills for the team-best mark, with setter Maloree Calzadillas handling the bulk of the assists with ten of her team's 22 dimes.
With the first half of conference play now in the rearview mirror, the Warriors will begin their run back through the CCC starting with Bushnell University (13-6, 8-3) on Wednesday, October 9th at 7pm in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
