Word Scores Thirty-Two Points as Warriors Fall to NCAA DI Broncos in Exhibition Contest

BOISE, Idaho – Junior guard Spivey Word put on a show for the NAIA viewership that tuned in to watch the Corban University Men's Basketball team battle NCAA DI Boise State University tonight in southwestern Idaho, as the San Bernardino native scored nearly half of the Warriors' total points in a 100-65 exhibition final in their only non-counting public contest of the year for the Navy and Gold.

"Our guys battled tough against one of the top teams in the country," explained Corban head coach Taylor Kelly earlier tonight. "I think we really connected some dots on offense and defense. The toughness this group possesses is apparent, and I'm excited to see how we continue to learn and grow in these beginning stages of the season."

In an exhibition matchup for the Warriors, Coach Kelly's squad was able to keep the contest close for a majority of the opening half, leading on multiple occasions through the first ten minutes of action before the Broncos (2-1) took over for good down the stretch and formed a 21-point halftime lead, allowing them to cruise to the century mark on their own home court.

Word was on fire from the field today as one of two Corban men's basketball players to score in double-digits, eventually ending his night with a game-high 32 points on 14-for-25 field goal shooting, along with a trio of steals, two blocks, and a pair of rebounds. It's the most points scored against an NCAA DI opponent in over 20 years for the Warriors, dating back to before digital stat files were made available for public distribution.

Fellow junior guard Payton Meyers scored ten points off the bench for Coach Kelly, while sophomore guard Ben Krystkowiak added nine points by hitting three of his five three-point attempts. Senior forward Jared Franklin led the Navy and Gold in rebounds, hauling in five boards during his team-high 28 minutes played.

Twenty-five free throw attempts compared to just six for Corban was one of many keys to success for Boise State in their Tuesday night victory at the ExtraMile Arena. Six student-athletes were in double-digits offensively, led by forward Javan Buchanan and his 16 points on 7-of-8 conversion rate. Forward O'Mar Stanley earned the only double-double of the evening for either squad, as he scored 15 points with 13 boards and four blocks defensively.

The Warriors will take the weekend to prepare the Dave Lipp Classic that begins on November 22nd at the Morse Center in Eugene, as Bushnell University will host a two-day tourney where Corban will faceoff with Simpson University (2-2) and Hope International University (3-1).
