ASHLAND, Ore. – In the inaugural Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) beach volleyball tournament, the No. 4-ranked Corban University Warriors concluded the first ever conference matchup with Bushnell University, securing the dual 4-1 to claim first place overall in the newly formed CCC standings.
"Today was a real challenge mentally and physically. The temperatures were in the mid 30s with a mix of rain and snow, perfect for beach volleyball!" joked Warriors' head coach Dan Stephens following their second victory over Bushnell in as many weeks. "I thought we competed well for our first road trip of the year. Bushnell really pushed us and showed us a number of areas we need to improve in. We will go again tomorrow in even colder conditions, so we'll need to be mentally prepared for that."
In a rematch from last weekend's regular season opener, the Warriors (3-1, 1-0) once again held the upper hand in their matchup with the Beacons (2-6, 0-1), as a quick 1-1 tie in the opening pairs was eradicated with three-straight wins, two of which came in straight sets. The top three pairs for Corban, represented by junior Megan Dennis/freshman Emma Bischoff, junior Jessica McMillian/freshman Danae Stokes, and sophomore Emmi Marks/redshirt junior Nicole Bantilan, all took 2-0 sweeps of their Beacon counterparts in a nearly flawless morning of beach volleyball.
Bushnell secured the battle of the fourth-overall pairs with a three-set comeback win over Warriors' redshirt freshman Payton Bazant and freshman Jordan Faircloth, as Sydney Myhree and Laci Jespersen became the first Beacons to earn a pair win over Corban since 2022. However, Bushnell wasn't the only team to snag a three-set comeback of their own today, as freshmen Cammie Masanda and Kiley Power completed 23-25, 21-16, and 15-10 set scores to seal the 4-1 victory for the Warriors.
