SNOHOMISH, Wash. – A near perfect day on the courts saw the No. 2-ranked Corban University Beach Volleyball program take back-to-back conference victories over Northwest University and Bushnell University, as the Eagles accepted a 5-0 sweep on their own home courts before the Warriors handed the Beacons their second straight 4-1 loss to the Navy and Gold and third in as many matchups.
"Today was a challenge for all the teams due to courts having some standing water due to all the recent rain, and while the sun was out today, the conditions made it challenging," Warriors' head coach Dan Stephens shared. "Our team played well, and we could see the improvements since our last competition. It's great to see the team so focused on bettering their skills and maturing in the mental part of the game. Tomorrow, we play a very athletic SOU team that has been waiting to have a shot at us, so we will need to bring our best play to the courts."
It was all Warriors (5-1, 3-0) in the tourney opener against the host Eagles (2-8, 0-4), as Corban took every pair in sweeping fashion and kept NU from reaching the 18-point mark in every set played. Corban held Northwest to single digits in three of the ten sets played, highlighted by a pair of dominant 21-9 and 21-4 set victories for sophomore Erin Scott and freshman Jordan Faircloth in the number four pairs.
In their third matchup of the season, the Warriors clinched yet another victory over the Beacons (3-10, 1-3) by a 4-1 pairing distribution, with Bushnell's Sydney Myhre and Laci Jespersen earning a three-set comeback win over Scott and Faircloth. However, the remainder of the pairs would fall the Navy and Gold's way in 2-0 set wins across the board, with Corban's top duo of junior Megan Dennis and freshman Emma Bischoff improving to 5-1 on the season thanks to 21-11 and 21-14 set wins over Beacons' Halle Neumann and Kate Palelek.
