EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 2-ranked Corban University Beach Volleyball team was challenged by their NCAA DI opponent earlier today at Amazon Park for the second time this season, as the University of Oregon picked up a victory in their home opener over the Warriors in sweeping fashion, winning all but one set in the top five pairs, 5-0.
"We played hard but couldn't finish some of the sets we led in," Corban head coach Dan Stephens stated. "There was a lot of good volleyball played by both teams and the tight matches will be good for our continued development. I hope we can carry what we learned into our matches against UP on Saturday."
The division one program showed their strengths early and often, with the Ducks (2-11) sprinting to the finish line in four of the five pairs in straight sets and the first four to be finished. The Warriors (6-2) saw their No. 2 pairing of junior Jessica McMillian and freshman Danae Stokes snag the first set of their battle with UO's Landree Coats and Bella Gamache 21-16, but the Ducks weren't about to be denied their first sweep of the season on their own home courts.
McMillian and Stokes fell victim to a 1-0 lead flipped into a 2-1 pair loss after Coats and Gamache rallied to win the next two sets 22-20 and 15-9 to complete the sweep for Oregon. The Navy and Gold hit double-digit points in every set played today, with three of the eight other sets played going the distance and concluding 21-19 in favor of UO.
