SALEM, Ore. – The inaugural regular season of beach volleyball under the jurisdiction of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) came to an end today on the campus of Corban University, where the No. 2-ranked Warriors handed the RV Yotes of The College of Idaho a 4-1 dual loss to provide the regular season champions with an impressive 11-1 conference slate this spring.
"We ended our conference play today the right way against C of I, and I thought we played well," commented Warriors' head coach Dan Stephens. "We continued to work on some areas of our game that needed to be improved, and I saw good effort and focus in those areas today. This team has worked hard and made great improvements through the regular season, and I expect that we will continue to learn and grow as we step into the postseason."
After falling to an NAIA team for the first time all season yesterday, the Warriors (15-3, 11-1) bounced back to end the regular season on a high note, nearly completing a five-pair sweep of the Yotes (6-7, 6-6) for the first time this season. In their two conference matchups leading up to today's makeup dual, Corban was able to eke out 3-2 wins on both C of I's home courts and at Bushnell University this past Friday.
Every pair played this morning in Salem resulted in straight set victories, with the Navy and Gold jumping out to a 3-0 lead to secure the match in the number two, three, and four pairings. C of I was able to snag a win in the fifth overall pairs thanks to the stellar play from Keylee Wilson and Ellie Baker, as they took 21-13 and 21-16 decisions to represent the lone win on the day for the Yotes.
With just the top pairs remaining, Corban's Megan Dennis and Emma Bischoff avenged their loss to C of I's Sydney Dews and Haley McUne this past Friday for their only NAIA pair loss of the season with 21-18 and 21-16 set wins, allowing the Warriors to conclude the regular season with an emphatic 4-1 outcome on their home sand.
