PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University Men's & Women's Cross Country programs got their first look at roughly half of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) field today in the annual CCC Preview meet, hosted by Multnomah at the Rose City Golf Club earlier this morning. Four of the men's programs were present today in PDX for the 8K, while the women's side had five teams running the 6K event.
"I'm thrilled with the results we saw out of our women's team as they continue to progress, along with the growth that our men's reserves had today as they stepped into the spotlight," explained Warriors' assistant coach Stuart Eagon. "We're still without two of our top five runners on the women's side, but the ladies did a good job today. We're getting better as a team every week. Carrie and Shaelee ran together for 5k, before separating a little bit over the last 1k."
The No. 5-ranked College of Idaho men's team and No. 6-ranked women's squad took home both the individual and team titles in Portland today, with Daniel Butler and Kahea Figueira securing the medalist positions for the Yotes. Other CCC programs present this morning were Eastern Oregon University, Bushnell University, Walla Walla University, The Evergreen State College, and Multnomah.
Out of a 66-woman field, the Warriors secured two top twenty-five individual finishes and three of the top thirty, led by true freshman Carrie Babcock and her team-best 24:15.14 to finish in 21st overall. Dual sport athlete and cross country freshman Shaelee Killorn completed her day right behind Babcock in 23rd with a 24:28.88, giving both Killorn and Babcock personal best runs in their collegiate careers.
Senior Judah Koehler rounded out the top three for Corban in 28th overall just under 25 minutes at 24:58.82 in her 2024 opener. Freshmen Myana Stock (25:19.88) and Makayla Rose (27:12.67) finished in 32nd and 46th to represent the top five Warrior times, each with personal best finishes as well. Sophomore Johnna Waddell completed the Navy and Gold representation on the women's side in 57th place and a final time of 28:58.06 to set a new season-high mark.
"We sat out our top runners and gave our reserve squad an opportunity to shine today on the men's side," continued Coach Eagon. "They did a good job and hopefully learned some lessons out there which will serve them well over the coming months."
In just the second meet of the season for the No. 22-ranked Corban men's squad, the Warriors were led by junior Noah Andres in 66th overall, clocking a 28:25.04 in his best collegiate performance to-date. Sophomore Luke DeVault (28:41.42) and junior Grant Anderson (28:42.86) finished back-to-back in 68th and 69th, which was a new personal best run for Anderson.
Another back-to-back finish for the Navy and Gold was represented by junior Nathan Pfaff and freshman Josiah Ziesemer, who concluded today's race in 77th and 78th with final race times of 29:30.12 and 29:41.26. The final two Corban student-athletes to cross the finish line this morning were sophomore Noah Platz (30:27.30) and freshman Talan Warkentin (30:36.69) in 82nd and 84th out of the nearly 100-man field.
The Warriors are next in action on Saturday, October 5th for the 49th annual Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational, hosted at Bush Park in the middle of Salem by NCAA DIII Willamette University and representing the closest Corban cross country meet of 2024 regarding proximity to campus.
