Warrior Women’s Cross Country Take Sixth, Men in Seventh Following Lewis & Clark Opener

ESTACADA, Ore. – The 2025 Corban University Cross Country season is officially off and running following their first appearance of the year at the Lewis & Clark Opener, hosted by NCAA DIII Lewis & Clark College at Milo McIver State Park. The Warrior women's program saw a majority of their roster compete on meet number one of the season and finish in sixth overall among twelve programs in action, while the No. 9-nationally ranked men's squad saw a handful of their reserves show out in what was the first collegiate race appearance for most of them.

"Good start to the year for the women today," Corban associate head coach Stuart Eagon shared earlier today. "We have quite a way to go in our training, as our team is really not in racing shape yet, but we don't want to be sharp until we get into October. We have 10-12 weeks ahead of us, so we feel fine with how we started today. Adaline McDowell showed that she is going to be a contributor for us this fall and I'm happy with how our other newcomers Anna and Kate performed as well. We were without Shaelee Killorn today, who will be a top 3 runner for us this fall when she is able to compete. Abby Oosterhout and Carrie Babcock both have an opportunity to qualify for nationals individually this fall as well, we'll be shooting for that as some our long term goals."

Senior Abigail Oosterhout and sophomore Carrie Babcock were the top performers on the women's side this morning, as they both submitted top twenty finishes with 19:05.9 and 19:20.7 final times, respectively, while true freshmen Adaline McDowell (20:09.6) and Anna Dixon (20.36.3) each clinched top fifty appearances. Freshman Kate Dickson (20:59.9) was the fifth team scorer to cross the finish line for the Warriors in 55th, while Josephine Rothman (21:16.7) rounded out the six team scoring finishes in 65th.

When asked about the men's race performance today, Coach Eagon said "For the men, we sat out almost all of our upperclassmen and the majority of our top ten runners. The meet in two weeks from now at Ash Creek will be similar, with our top five runners will not open their season until the Willamette race at Bush Park on October 4th. We have a lot of work to do, but I'm still happy we got a race in today. I believe it was a mostly positive experience for those who competed, and I'm happy to see the progress our freshmen have made in such a short amount of time."

The top five Navy and Gold finishers this morning for Corban men's cross country were represented entirely by lowerclassmen, with the first four to finish their 5k races having competed in their first-ever collegiate competition. Freshmen Kai Kearns (51st – 16:45.0), Ryder Britton (67th – 17.02.7), Samuel Bonsell (69th – 17:05.8), and Garrett Frongner (71st – 17:07.3) all finished today's race within 22 seconds of each other, while sophomore Talan Warkentin (92nd – 17:44.8) and junior Jamin Potloff (110th – 18:46.8) wrapped up the team scoring today for the Corban cross country programs.

The Warriors will make their next appearance on Friday, September 12th at the Ash Creek Collegiate, hosted by NCAA DII Western Oregon University across the Willamette River in Monmouth.
