PORTLAND, Ore. – A dominant all-inclusive performance from every student-athlete to hit the hardwood this evening for the No. 9-ranked Corban University Volleyball team allowed the program to earn the clean sweep of the PDX conference schools this weekend that concluded with a 3-0 victory over the Multnomah Lions. The Warriors earned back-to-back three-set sweeps in Portland to kick off the conference season, emphasized with 25-15, 25-11, and 25-12 set scores from this afternoon's contest.
"Our passing and serving made a huge difference tonight!" Warriors' head coach Kim McLain said. "I was proud of the team for coming out strong, focused, and ready to play with intention by maintaining consistency throughout the match."
With the exception of the first sixteen points in the third set, the Warriors (6-1, 2-0) put on an absolute MasterClass session at Jim Skagen Court in their first matchup with the Lions (0-6, 0-2) for the 2024 season, dominating every aspect of the game from both the offensive and defensive sides of the court. The Navy and Gold trailed for only eight rallies the entire night, as they utilized massive scoring streaks throughout each set to cruise to the three-straight double-digit set wins.
Sophomore outside hitter Emma Bischoff was a single dig away from her fourth double-double of the season, ending her evening with game-best marks of ten kills and nine digs along with a service ace. Junior opposite hitter Makayla Roginski continued her warpath through the Rose City with another consistent performance of eight kills and just a single error. On the weekend, Roginski had 20 kills off 32 attempts and the one error from tonight for an impressive .593 kill percentage in Portland.
Another 20-assist performance from junior setter Abby Guindy combined with seven digs continues her versatile streak to begin conference play, while senior middle blocker Allyson Reid swatted a game-high eight block assists. Redshirt junior middle blocker Jadah Schmidtke was right behind Reid with five block assists and the only two solo stuffs of the night.
Multnomah outside hitter Aleya Baptiste led the home team with five kills, while setter Zoe Schuele secured eight digs and 12 assists. Due to the Warriors' impressive defensive showing, the Lions had a negative team hitting percentage at -.082 on the day with 28 errors compared to 20 total kills.
Prior to making the grueling trip to southern Oregon, the Warriors will travel to Eugene to matchup against Bushnell University (7-3, 2-0) for the first of two-midweek matchups with the Beacons this season, which will take place on Tuesday, September 10th at 7pm in the Morse Center.
