Barzousky, Solorzano Score First Career Goals to Complete Comeback for Corban Men’s Soccer

SALEM, Ore. – The first career goals for a pair of underclassmen provided the Corban University Men's Soccer team with an unlikely come-from-behind victory tonight at the Outdoor Athletic Complex (OAC), as the Warriors overcame a 1-0 deficit with two goals across the final twenty minutes of action to pick up their second-straight win in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play.

"It's nice to get another win in front of our loyal fans," Corban head coach Tim Kagey shared earlier this evening. "We are focused on the next one tomorrow night and will continue to push forward on this journey."

Both the Warriors (4-7-1, 2-3-1) and Eagles (3-5-3, 0-4-2) battled back-and-forth over the opening 40 minutes of play at the foot of Corban's campus tonight in the nightcap of the doubleheader between the men's and women's soccer program with Northwest before NU finally broke through in the 42nd minute to break the scoreless tie. Forward Logan Anderson found himself in the right place at the right time following a save from redshirt senior goalkeeper Isaac Pureco, tapping the ball into the netting off the deflection from Pureco to allow the Eagles to go up 1-0 entering the halftime break.

A slow-paced second half from Northwest resulted in frustrating moments for the Warriors as they searched for the equalizer, yet finally found their first goal of the contest on a deflection of their own. After sophomore forward Alexander Guindy blasted a shot off NU goalkeeper Bailey Hopkins, sophomore midfielder Josiah Solorzano was right in front of the goal to place a perfect header past the dive of Hopkins in the 72nd minute.

Less than ten minutes later, the Navy and Gold secured their home victory on a game-winner from freshman defender Jude Barzousky, as the freshman from Santa Rose Beach, Florida maneuvered his way through the Eagles' defense on a free kick into the box by senior forward Nathan Martinez and punched the ball past Hopkins to flip a 1-0 impending loss into a 2-1 Corban victory.

Pureco finished tonight's contest with just one save in the complete game effort, while his counterpart in Hopkins needed to make six saves in total to prevent any further damage on the scoreboard. Both Guindy and senior midfielder Santiago Castano took four shots apiece, while redshirt senior forward Gerardo Lopez led all players with two shots on goal. Anderson led a trio of Eagles with a pair of shots offensively.

The Warriors will look to pick up a third-consecutive win on their home turf tomorrow night against The Evergreen State College (1-7-1, 1-4-1) in their four-game homestand finale, with kickoff scheduled to begin shortly after the women's contest at 7pm.
