Castano Nets Equalizer, Warriors Complete Undefeated Weekend with Draw Against Geoducks

SALEM, Ore. – In the 74th minute of tonight's contest, senior midfielder Santiago Castano found the back of the netting on a free kick to turn an impending solo-goal loss into a 1-1 draw against The Evergreen State College, which eventually ended in the Warriors' second tie of Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action after the offenses stalled for the remaining 17 minutes of play.

"It's nice to see our group continue to fight," explained Corban head coach Tim Kagey. "We are excited to continue getting better as the season progresses."

The first 60 minutes of gameplay between the Warriors (4-7-2, 2-3-2) and Geoducks (1-7-2, 1-4-2) was played to a scoreless draw before a costly Corban penalty set Evergreen up with a free kick deep in the Warriors' defensive half, which they were able to cash in on thanks to a header by defender Alan Miranda on the cross by midfielder Kolby Juarez.

Just over 12 minutes later, the Navy and Gold received their own free kick from nearly the same spot the Geoducks had on their goal in the 61st minute, with Castano setting up to take the attempt from twenty-five yards out. He laced a short line drive across the turf an through the legs of every player crashing into the box and despite the best efforts of Evergreen State goalkeeper Tom Cole, was able to find the back post to net the equalizer at the OAC.

The two CCC programs saw opportunities to flip the script on their opponent over the final 17 minutes of regulation, yet instead both settled for 1-1 draw, which represents the second tie for both teams in conference action to date. Cole was the saves leader with four against Corban men's soccer, while redshirt senior Isaac Pureco snagged a pair of saves. Castano and sophomore forward Alexander Guindy each pelted three shot attempts, while Miranda sent four shots towards the goal to hold the game-high offensive statistic.

Corban men's soccer will travel to Bushnell University next Thursday for their travel partner rivalry game at 7pm on Civic Park's turf field. The Beacons completed an 8-0-0 undefeated record through the non-conference portion of their schedule but are 2-3-2 in CCC play, the identical conference record as the Navy and Gold.
