SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University Men's Soccer program clinched the second of two five-goal performances today in front of a Sunday afternoon crowd at the Outdoor Athletic Complex, as the Warriors joined the Corban women's squad in a 5-3 home victory over Walla Walla University, representing their first Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) win of the year and did so in dominant fashion.
The Navy and Gold (3-7-1, 1-3-1) battled through an intense and physical bout with the Wolves (1-4-0, 1-4-0) that consisted of 39 total fouls, nine combined yellow cards, and eight scoring plays in a complete brawl that stretched over two hours and fifteen minutes in length. Corban men's soccer completed the contest with a 15-11 advantage in shots, yet the Wolves took an additional shot on goal (8-7).
Warriors' sophomore forward Alexander Guindy scored the opening goal of today's contest in the 23rd minute, as he collected a cross from senior midfielder Santiago Castano and buried the ball into the back of the netting. However, twelve minutes of gameplay later, the Wolves found the equalizer thanks to the connection of midfielder Paulo Tostado and forward Eniola Smith. Smith and Tostado both made breaks for the penalty box, Smith from the right and Tostado from the left, and after losing his defender, Smith found the open man in Tostado for the game-tying score.
The Wolves' draw would last no longer than five minutes though, as redshirt senior forward Gerardo Lopez connected on a pass from sophomore forward Zachary Milczarek to break the tie once again. Just two minutes from Lopez' goal, Castano cashed in on a penalty kick try that Wolves' goalkeeper Pablo Ossorio almost saved from crossing the endline.
Following the halftime break, Tostado secured his first assist of the game after a broken defensive possession for the Warriors, as forward Juan Lobos went nearly untouched for Walla Walla's second overall goal of the day.
In the 53rd minute, Guindy secured his brace with what would stand to be the eventual game-winning goal after freshman midfielder Josue Lomeli found Guindy sprinting up the left side of the field and following a crafty juke on Ossorio, netted his second goal of the afternoon.
Senior forward Nathan Martinez scored his first goal as a Warrior just fifteen minutes later on an assist from Guindy, and while the Wolves did nab another goal by Tostado in the 88th minute, the damage that Guindy and Martinez combined for all but wrapped up the result today at the OAC.
Guindy and Tostado tied for the game-high mark in shots with six apiece and equally scored two goals and assisted on another, while Corban redshirt senior goalkeeper Isaac Pureco snagged five saves compared to just two for Ossorio.
The Warriors will return to the OAC next Friday for a 7pm kickoff against Northwest University (3-4-3, 0-3-2) with an opportunity to create their first win-streak of 2025.
