SALEM, Ore. – A side-to-side rainy evening for the Corban University Men's Soccer squad was dampened even more so thanks to a pair of first half goals for the visiting Battlin' Bears of Rocky Mountain College, as the 2-0 home loss in their penultimate home match of the season combined with results across the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) officially put the Warriors out of reach of qualifying for the upcoming postseason, missing out by just a few points in the regular season standings.
A pair of unassisted first half scoring plays by Rocky Mountain (6-1-7, 5-1-5) forward Fynn Sweeting represented the only goals of the contest for either squad, as the Warriors (4-9-4, 2-5-4) were unable to find the back of the netting due to a stunning performance in goal by Battlin' Bears' goalkeeper Biruk Paulos-Negatu. Time and time again, shots were turned away by Paulos-Negatu after facing an early disadvantage having to play down a man for over half of tonight's contest.
Despite outshooting RMC 23-13 on the evening, Corban was unable to find the back of the netting behind Paulos-Negatu's eight saves to secure the road CCC shutout. Warriors' sophomore forward Alexander Guindy led all players with six shots taken, three of which resulted in saves by Paulos-Negatu. Corban redshirt senior goalkeeper Isaac Pureco turned away four shot attempts for saves, yet allowed the brace by Sweeting to suffer his fifth loss in goal this season. Sweeting and forward Aaron Lawson led the Battlin' Bear offense with four shots each.
Nine senior student-athletes will be celebrated tomorrow evening prior to the start of the Warriors' final matchup of the 2025 season against RV Carroll College (11-2-2, 9-1-1), with kickoff scheduled for 7pm following the Senior Day festivities.
