Northwest Overcomes Fourth Quarter Deficit to Stun Corban Women’s Basketball

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Leading by 19 points with just under eight minutes remaining in a contest can have the appearance of a sure-win in collegiate basketball, yet within the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC), nobody is safe from a comeback bid, and the Corban University Women's Basketball suffered that realization earlier tonight when the Northwest University Eagles road the Senior Weekend wave to an 86-83 upset victory to salvage a series split with the Warriors.

"Tonight was one of our best shooting nights of the season but unfortunately, it's really hard to overcome thirty-three turnovers and complete a road win in this conference," detailed Corban head coach Kylie Frizell. "Their pressure really bothered us, and they were able to hit the shots they needed to down the stretch."

After a slow start out of the gate where the Warriors (10-15, 8-11) scored just 17 points compared to 21 for the Eagles (7-18, 6-13) over the first quarter after committing 14 turnovers, the Corban offense rose to the occasion throughout the second where they converted on 12-of-17 field goal attempts to flip a four-point deficit into a ten-point halftime lead.

The Navy and Gold added to their lead in the third by shooting exactly 50% from the floor, yet the offensive miscues leading to Northwest buckets in transition were beginning to add up and become unsettling for a Corban crew that was dominating the boards and shooting the ball extremely well.

Determined to pick up the road victory and snap their losing skid in conference play by scoring the first eight points to begin the fourth quarter, the Warriors' offense became ice cold at the most inopportune time, as the Eagles went on a 26-6 scoring run to conclude the contest and somehow flip a sure-fire loss into quite possibly the biggest comeback win of the 2024-25 regular season in CCC action. Northwest was able to capitalize on 33 Corban turnovers to score 36 points, while they committed just 15 turnovers themselves that led to 19 points for the Navy and Gold.

Warriors' redshirt sophomore guard Jenna Albrecht led the team in scoring tonight with 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting, including a 4-for-5 clip from distance while dishing out a game-high six assists. Redshirt junior guard Tori Younker added 12 points, while senior forward Madison Hodnett concluded her evening with a ten-point and ten-rebound double-double performance.

Five Eagles were in double-figure scoring tonight for Northwest, led by guard Kaleah Medeiros and her game-high 21 points alongside three assists and five steals. Forward Ellie De Waard racked up 13 points with seven boards and five blocked shots, while guard Saydee Anderson snagged a game-best six steals defensively.

The Warriors' final road game of the 2024-25 regular season will take place tomorrow at 3pm in Olympia, as The Evergreen State College Geoducks (7-14, 7-12) will play host at the Costantino Recreation Center.
