Geoducks Force Season Split with Warriors

OLYMPIA, Wash. – In their final home game of the 2024-25 regular season, The Evergreen State College picked up a 64-53 win over the Corban University Women's Basketball team to earn a season split in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play after the Warriors defeated the Geoducks by nearly 20 in Salem mid-January.

"Unfortunate to have one of our most inconsistent offensive efforts after one of our best of the season last night, but that's all part of the game and we have to be able to make adjustments," detailed Corban head coach Kylie Frizell. "I thought we played well enough defensively on the perimeter and in transition to give ourselves a chance in today's game, but offensively we just couldn't convert when we needed to string together a run."

In the fourth and final game of their two-week road trip, the Warriors (10-16, 8-12) clearly felt the travel exhaustion throughout today's afternoon contest with the Geoducks (8-14, 8-12), as they shot under 37% from the field and 30% from distance, while earning only four free throw attempts in 40 minutes of regulation played. Evergreen State was called for half as few fouls today when compared to Corban, resulting in 21 free throw attempts for the Geoducks in which 16 of their 64 points originated from.

An eight-point deficit at halftime was increased to double-digits shortly into the third quarter for Evergreen State, which they never relinquished for the remainder of the game despite multiple comeback runs by the Navy and Gold that cut the lead to two possessions. However, the Geoducks consistently found an answer the Corban's multiple scoring runs to keep themselves in the driver's seat and secure the series split.

Senior guard Alyssa Wyllie and sophomore guard Teayona Hoard each scored 11 points to lead the Warriors offensively and represent the only Corban players in double-figure scoring today, with senior forward Madison Hodnett snagging six boards to lead the Navy and Gold in the paint. Redshirt junior guard Tori Younker and redshirt sophomore guard Jenna Albrecht each dealt out four assists as the playmakers on offense.

Geoducks' forward Mikail Montez scored a game-high 15 points for the hometown team, along with four rebounds and three assists. Forward Jalyn Sackrider was dominant in the paint with 12 points, nine rebounds, and six blocks while dishing out a game-high six dimes.

Corban women's basketball returns to the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center next Friday for their final two contests of the regular season, beginning with their annual Field Trip game against (RV) Lewis-Clark State College (21-5, 15-5) at 12pm where they'll welcome hundreds of elementary school students to Tim Hills Court in the Warriors' penultimate home matchup.
