Providence Completes Second Half Comeback as Corban Men’s Soccer Drops Conference Opener

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Three goals were scored in the opening four minutes of today's match for the Corban University Men's Soccer team as they battled in central Montana against the University of Providence and eventually dropped a 3-2 decision for the only Argos' second all-time victory over the Warriors. The Navy and Gold (2-5-0, 0-1-0) flipped their early deficit into a lead which they held for nearly a complete half of play, yet a pair of second half scores from UP provided the Argos (1-4-1, 1-1-0) with a comeback home victory to conclude opening weekend for soccer across the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC).

"I didn't prepare our group enough to get a result today," Corban head coach Tim Kagey explained. "We're looking forward to getting back to training and continuing to improve."

Just one minute and eleven seconds into the match, a misplay in the back of the Warriors' defensive half resulted in a goal for midfielder Musa Jallow, yet in the next two minutes of play the Navy and Gold would score both of their goals for the contest on rapid-strike possessions in transition. First, sophomore forward Zachary Milczarek collected a cross from senior midfielder Santiago Castano to score the tying goal just 45 seconds from the UP opening-goal.

Less than a minute and a half later, Castano scored the go-ahead goal off an assist from redshirt senior forward Gerardo Lopez to provide the Warriors with a 2-1 lead with over 85 minutes still to be played at Argo Field.

Following the halftime break, UP midfielder Jose Gonzalez found the equalizer on a corner kick sent in by midfielder Angel Nolasco in the 52nd minute, and after back-and-forth opportunities for either squad over the next thirty minutes, Argos' defender Ole Heinsohn cashed in on a free kick cross from midfielder Pedro Rodrigues to seal the Warriors' fate in Great Falls.

A handful of offensive opportunities for Providence ultimately allowed the hometown team to create their own comeback bid, as they took seven more shots in the second half than Corban and five more for the entire 90 minutes of regulation. Milczarek and senior forward Nathan Martinez led all players with three shots apiece, with Martinez recording two shots on goal.

The Warriors will be back in action next Friday, September 26th in Caldwell, Idaho against The College of Idaho Yotes (0-1-1, 0-1-0) at 6:30pm MT/5:30pm PT.
