CALDWELL, Idaho – Earlier this season, the No. 20-ranked Corban University Women's Basketball team suffered back-to-back losses then followed up with a massive road win over a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) program on the rise. The Navy and Gold replicated that exact scenario tonight in southwestern Idaho, as the Dubs took down the RV Yotes of The College of Idaho in commanding 73-61 fashion. With the victory, Corban forced a four-way tie for third in the conference standings, trailing only No. 13-ranked Lewis-Clark State College by one game and No. 17-ranked Eastern Oregon University with ten games remaining on the regular season calendar.
"I'm so proud of our team tonight," shared Warriors' head coach Kylie Frizell. "To be able to bounce back after a tough loss last night and perform the way that we did just shows how resilient this group is. Our defense was great and that translated on the offensive end."
The Warriors (14-4, 7-3) jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never relinquished the road advantage for the remainder of the contest in Caldwell. Back-to-back three-pointers from redshirt senior guard Tori Younker on the opening play of the game followed by a redshirt junior guard Jenna Albrecht triple set the offensive pace, with the Navy and Gold scoring on 51% of all field goals and were an even 50% from deep.
Meanwhile, the Yotes (13-5, 7-3) were just 20-for-60 from the field on offense, shooting 26% from three-point range and 68% from the free throw line in a lockdown defensive effort for the Warriors. Despite committing five more team fouls and six more total turnovers, Corban kept C of I at bay in offensive transition, out of set plays, and on second chance points to claim their second road win of the season over a team receiving votes in the NAIA Women's Basketball National Poll.
Albrecht and redshirt sophomore guard Jersey Huerta tied for the scoring leader position with 18 points apiece, with Albrecht falling two rebounds shy of a double-double effort alongside four assists and two blocks. Huerta dealt out a game-high five assists, while Younker and graduate student center Emilia Bishop scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Yotes were led in scoring by guard Anna Mooney and forward Maiya Hardy, who scored 14 points apiece with Hardy gathering seven boards. Forward Riley Beck hopped off the bench to match Mooney and Hardy with 14 points of her own and tying the game-high steals mark with a pair.
The second half of CCC play begins this upcoming Tuesday, January 20th on the road for Corban women's basketball, as they'll travel to Eugene for round two against I-5 rival Bushnell University (5-13, 3-7) for a 5:30pm tipoff.
