SALEM, Ore. – Ten Warriors found the bottom of the basket tonight for the No. 18-ranked Corban University Women's Basketball program en route to a 95-51 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) blowout victory over The Evergreen State College Geoducks, with the Navy and Gold picking up their twelfth overall win of the regular season to top last year's total of eleven with fourteen scheduled contests still to be played out.
"I'm really happy with how we played for a complete forty minutes tonight," began Warriors' head coach Kylie Frizell. "We executed our style of play and pushing tempo was key as we kept the ball flowing from both the offensive and defensive ends of the court."
Impressive offensive performances up and down the Warrior (12-2, 5-1) lineup perfectly summarized a dominant afternoon for the Dubs, as they picked apart the Geoducks' (0-9, 0-6) defense to score over 90 points in a contest for the fifth time this season. The CCC's highest scoring offense that averages over 81 points per game tallied points on the scoreboard at will against Evergreen, with the conference's leading scorer, redshirt sophomore guard Jersey Huerta, leading the offensive firepower with a team-high 21 points on 7-for-11 field goal shooting. Huerta assisted on another seven buckets to lead all players while growing her season average to 4.4 per game and hopping back into the top three within the Pacific Northwest.
A 28-5 advantage in assists even further supported the remarkable gameplay by Corban today against the Geoducks, with redshirt senior guard Tori Younker tying Huerta for the game-high in assists with seven of her own in a massive support role played today by the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho native. Younker finished today's matchup with only four points, yet her seven assists, six rebounds, and three steals provided the Warriors with plenty of second-chance opportunities.
Redshirt junior guard Jenna Albrecht missed just a single field goal all game long to finish with 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while graduate student center Emilia Bishop wrapped up yet another consistent defensive performance behind ten points, nine boards, and a team-high four blocks.
Guard Jenna Glenzel and forward Bayleigh Harder represented a two-woman wrecking crew for Evergreen, as the two combined for 35 of their squad's 51 total points, with Glenzel leading all scorers at 24 points, nine of which came from the charity stripe. The duo were the most consistent defensive threat for the Geoducks as well, with Glenzel snagging seven steals while Harder swatted seven blocks, both of which represented the game-best marks.
The homestand continues into next weekend for Warrior women's basketball, beginning with Walla Walla University (2-10, 0-6) on Friday for a matinee start time at noon within the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
