Barbeau Leads the Warriors After Day One at The Warrior Fall invitational

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Corban University men's golf team ended the opening rounds in eighth place as a team at the annual Warrior Fall Invitational at the Lewiston Golf and Country Club, hosted by No. 20-ranked Lewis-Clark State College. In round one, they posted a team score of +15 with a total of 303 strokes while ending the second round with a score of +28 and shot 316 to finish the opening day at a combined 619 (+43).

"We had a rough two rounds and couldn't find our rhythm to overcome the deficit," said head coach Charlie Marshall. "We know we could have played better and hope to rebound tomorrow to move up the leaderboard." After a slow start, the Warriors are determined to claw back, climb up the team scores, and gain some traction leading into the final tournaments of the fall season. Another light came from freshman Casyn Simmons, as coach Marshall said, "Casyn had a good comeback for his second round"

In round one, the Warriors were led by an identical shooting trio including seniors David Harvey and Owen Heath, alongside sophomore Brenden Barbeau. Barbeau, Heath, and Harvey all posted identical scores of 74 (+2) after round one.

"Kudos to Brendan who is playing as an individual for shooting lights out to go +5 for the day." Coach Marshall added. In the second 18 of the day, Barbeau made his way up the individual rankings leading the team with a score of 79 (+3) and putting him in a 5-way tie for 15th place going into the final round tomorrow. He ended the day shooting 149 (+5).

Corban's starting lineup also included the likes of sophomore Isaac Laro and freshman Rane Divers. Laro added a 75 after round one then an 80 after the second. Divers posted an 80 in the opening round and followed with an 89. After the second round, Harvey posted an 80, Heath posted a 79, and Simmons etched a 77 for the Warriors to sit in eighth after day, one only three strokes away from Warner Pacific University and eight strokes from Southern Oregon University.

The host Warriors (575) lead the team field at -1 overall through two rounds, closely followed by No. 15-ranked University of British Columbia (577), The College of Idaho (585), Oregon Tech (597), and Bushnell University (609) to round out the top five teams. LC State's Carson Clinton and C of I's Drisan Booth are tied for medalist honors at -4 overall (140).

With Barbeau seeking a top ten finish and experience from seniors Harvey and Heath, the Warriors look to counteract the slow start and bounce back by adding momentum to fuel their push for a higher team finish in the final day of The Warrior Fall Invitational. Tee times for the final round are scheduled to begin at 8:30am.
