Moore Shows Out to Lead Corban Women’s Golf in Day One of Warrior Fall Invitational

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Corban University women's golf team took to the links at Lewiston Golf and Country Club on Monday for the first round of the Warrior Fall Invitational. Facing a formidable and deep field of eight teams on the par-72, 5,800-yard layout, the Warriors posted a team score of 372 (+84) to land in eighth place.

Coach Charlie Marshall had some remarks about the day one performance from the women. "Our success today was in Maddy's game. She was locked in and looking to PR. Our improvements need to be in our chipping and putting. Pin placements today were on the tough side. If we can go into tomorrow's round more focused and play a bit smarter, we should see great improvements for our ladies."

Junior Madelyn Moore led the way for Corban, shooting an impressive 81 (+9). Her round earned her a tie for 19th among 47 golfers and placed her in a group with competitors from No. 16-ranked Lewis-Clark State College, Bushnell University and Walla Walla University. Moore finished just four strokes shy of a top 10 spot, giving the Warriors a steady presence at the top of their lineup.

Junior Ashlyn Thomas was next in line for Corban, scoring an 88 (+16) to tie for 39th. Freshman Amanda Ramirez fought her way to a 100 (+28) to tie for 43rd, and Junior Kaylee Umbright closed out the Navy and Gold scorecard with a 103 (+31) to finish 45th.

No. 19-ranked Oregon Tech set the tone from the start, carding a 298 (+10) to lead the field, while No. 4-ranked University of British Columbia (300) and Lewis-Clark State (308) rounded out the top three. Tech's Alyssa Kauleinamoku claimed the top individual spot with an even-par 72, the only round at or under par on the day. Teammates Madison Dick 73 (+1) and Madie Hepner 74 (+2) joined her near the top, giving the Owls three of the top five finishers. British Columbia's Keira Hou also came in with an impressive showing, tying Dick for second with a 73 (+1).

The Warriors will be back tomorrow for day two of action in Lewiston. As per Marshall, they will aim to improve their chipping and putting. With those aspects cleaned up, and riding the success of Moore's performance in day one, Corban looks to battle back and prove they belong in the mix of eight teams stacked with elite golfers.
