Warrior Trio Takes on Tough Test at Tall Timber Invitational

EUGENE, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Golf opened the Tall Timber Invitational on October 19th at Eugene Country Club, taking on a challenging 5,848-yard, par-72 layout alongside seven other programs, including No. 15-ranked University of the Cumberlands. The Warriors entered the tournament with three golfers and will compete solely for individual results rather than a team score.

Head coach Charlie Marshall acknowledged the challenges his golfers faced throughout the opening round. "Eugene Country Club is not an easy course and presented our three ladies with plenty of challenges. The greens were hard to navigate due to various undulations. But, despite the toughness of the course, I'm proud of how they represented themselves, Corban, and Jesus."

Junior Ashlyn Thomas paced the Warriors with an 89 (+17), securing a five-way tie for 17th alongside golfers from Cumberlands and Bushnell University, the tournament hosts. Thomas recorded five pars on holes two, three, five, seven, and 18, closing her round on a positive note with a par on the final hole. She shot a 43 (+8) on the front nine before finishing with a 46 (+9) on the back. Among the 42 competitors, Thomas also stands tied for fifth in par-3 scoring, tied for 10th in par-4 scoring, and tied for 15th in total pars.

Junior Madelyn Moore followed with a 97 (+25) to sit in 31st, just one stroke behind 30th and two strokes outside the group tied for 27th. After opening with a 49 (+14) on the front nine, Moore shaved a stroke off her total on the back, posting a 48 (+11) to finish the day with an encouraging improvement. Moore also holds top 35 positions in par-3, par-4, and par-5 scoring, as well as total pars, giving her areas to build on heading into the second round. She remains within reach of golfers from Southern Oregon University, Bushnell, Walla Walla University, and The College of Idaho.

Junior Kaylee Umbright rounded out Corban's trio, completing the demanding course with a 107 (+35) to stand in 39th individually. Umbright will look to turn the page in Tuesday's round, with a new course offering a fresh opportunity to build on her opening-day experience.

No. 15-ranked Cumberlands holds the team lead at 330 (+42), just three strokes ahead of Walla Walla at 333 (+45), while College of Idaho sits third at 345 (+57). College of Idaho's Inkjung Charnchanayothin leads the individual standings with a 75 (+3), four strokes clear of Jasmine Points of Cumberlands, Ayelet Altalef of Walla Walla, and Atchariya Thanaudomkul of Cumberlands, who share second at 79 (+7).

The Warriors return to action for day two of the Tall Timber Invitational at Tokatee Golf Course in Blue River, Oregon. With a change of venue comes a fresh opportunity for Thomas, Moore, and Umbright to climb the individual standings while continuing to represent Corban and their faith on the links.
