BLUE RIVER, Ore. The Corban University women's golf team concluded the final day of the Tall Timber Invitational on October 20th at the Tokatee Golf Club. The 5,922-yard, par-72 course proved to be more player-friendly than Eugene Country Club the day before. Junior Madelyn Moore shaved ten strokes off her score yesterday to card an 87 (+15). The Warriors fielded three individual entries for this tournament who all shot their best rounds today for the week but did not post a team score having only three of the minimum four-player team requirement.
Head coach Charlie Marshall was pleased with the trio's overnight improvement. "I'm proud of how each of our ladies played today. They all shot better today than yesterday, with Maddy making the biggest recovery of ten strokes. I'm proud of how they all stayed positive throughout the two days, especially when bad shots or holes happened. We have a couple of days to get ready for our last tournament of the fall."
Thanks to Moore's rebound on day two, she finished tied for 28th with an overall score of 184 (+40) on the tournament. Junior Ashlyn Thomas posted Corban's best finish after a consistent weekend. Following an 89 (+17) yesterday, she lowered her score by two strokes to 87 (+15), matching Moore's day-two total. Thomas' steadiness over the two days left her tied for 19th with an overall score of 176 (+32). Junior Kaylee Umbright played consistently on the course today, shooting 52 on both the front and back nine at Tokatee and carding a 104, down 3 strokes from day one. The improvement led her to shoot a tournament total of 211 (+67), finishing tied for 39th.
Thomas was in the zone on the par 4s this week, tying for 9th in a deep field on par 4 averages while finishing tied for 14th in pars scored with 14 in total across the 36 holes. She parred half of her holes today with nine.
No. 15-ranked University of the Cumberlands pulled away today after entering the clubhouse yesterday with a 3-stroke lead and taking sole possession of first place at the Tall Timber Invitational. They subtracted 21 strokes from their team score yesterday, ultimately finishing day two at 309 (+21). They compiled a total score of 639 (+63). Walla Walla University and The College of Idaho finished as co-runners-up, with the Wolves being the only team with a higher stroke total on day two, carding 334 (+46), after a highly respectable 333 (+45) on Monday. The Yotes made up 12 strokes on the Wolves today, finishing their invitational at 322 (+34) and dropping 23 strokes from their Monday team score. Yote's Inkjung Charnchanayothin claimed first place and medalist honors, representing the only competitor to shoot under par at Tokatee and finishing with a tournament total of 146 (+2).
The Warriors will hit the road for a third-straight week, concluding the competitive portion of their fall season next week as they travel to Bremerton, Washington for the OUAZ Fall Invitational, hosted by Ottawa University-Arizona beginning next Monday, October 26th, and ending Tuesday, October 27th.
