Corban Women’s Cross Country Tested Against Deep Field at Charles Bowles Invitational

SALEM, Ore. – Facing one of the strongest and deepest fields of the season, the Corban University women's cross country team earned a 14th-place finish Saturday morning at the 51st Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational at Bush Park. The Warriors competed against 25 scoring teams from across the NCAA and NAIA ranks, continuing their preparations for the championship portion of the season.

"Overall, I'm pleased with how our ladies performed today," shared Warriors' head coach Stuart Eagon. "Carrie did not have her best race, but our other four scorers did fine and we're headed in the right direction. I'm very proud of them! It's great to see Adelynne, who's a freshman leading the pack for us, a little bit tighter with the top performers in our conference, and I'm excited for the women to put their best foot forward when they attempt to qualify for nationals next month."

In the team standings, Corban placed 14th overall with 441 points in a loaded field featuring NCAA DI, DII, and NAIA programs. The Warriors finished ahead of 11 competing teams, including Northwest University, Treasure Valley Community College, Westminster University, Lane Community College, University of Hawaii-Hilo, Everett Community College, Hawaii Pacific University, Bushnell University, Oregon State Running Club, Umpqua Community College, and Pierce College. NCAA Division I member University of Hawaii captured the team title with 65 points, followed by the University of Portland (70), No. 3-ranked College of Idaho (86), Fresno State University (103), and the University of Nevada (151).

Freshman Adelynne Rispler paced the Warriors for a second time in the first three meets of the season, crossing the finish line in 19:11.5 to place 84th overall. Sophomore Amelia Anstrand followed in 103rd with a time of 19:29.3, while junior Carrie Babcock finished 118th in 19:46.1. Sophomore Adaline McDowell added a mark of 19:55.8 to place 125th, and sophomore Josephine Rothman rounded out Corban's scoring five in 138th with a time of 20:07.4.

Additional Warrior finishers included junior Emalie Lindberg (166th, 20:47.2), freshman Alannah Woizeschke (176th, 21:01.6), senior Johnna Cooley (191st, 21:54.6), freshman Eliza Fraley (205th, 22:44.5), and sophomore Madyson Combs (221st, 24:26.3).

The individual race was won by Portland's Latham West, who crossed the finish line in 16:35.1. Isabel Perez-Zoghbi of Cal Poly Humboldt placed second in 16:59.3, while Evergreen State's Alauna Carstens finished third in 17:08.3. Portland's Jane Roloff (17:19.9) and College of Idaho's Kylee Quinton (17:25.6) completed the top five.

Saturday's race provided another strong measuring stick for the Warriors as they faced numerous nationally competitive programs and a significantly larger field than in previous meets. Corban continues to show consistency throughout its lineup, with Rispler once again leading a tightly grouped pack against high-level opposition.

The Warriors will return to action on October 17th at the George Oja Invitational, hosted by NCAA DIII Linfield University at the Oak Knoll Golf Course just outside Independence in preparation for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships in early November.
