Balanced Pack Powers Corban Women’s Cross Country to Fifth Place at Ash Creek Collegiate

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The 2026 campaign continued on Friday afternoon for the Corban University Women's Cross Country program, placing fifth overall at the Ash Creek Collegiate against a talented field that featured all levels of NCAA, NAIA, and local junior college competition. The Warriors compiled 156 team points in the women's 5,000-meter race, finishing ahead of Pacific University, Linfield University, Bushnell University, Lewis & Clark College, and Clark College.

"Adelynne and Carrie struggled a little bit today, especially with Adalyn being a bit sick, but it's great that I know both she and Carrie will run much better at our upcoming meet at Bush Park," explained Warriors' head coach Stuart Eagon. "I was really pleased with how Amelia and Adaline ran today and Josie and Emalie did well, even despite Josie still working back to 100%. I think she'll have a much better race at bush as well. The most notable thing from today is the fact that Emalie ran literally two minutes faster today at this meat then she did at the exact same meet on the same course one year ago. It's really a testament to her hard work and it shows the massive improvement she's made. Some of the girls behind her like Alannah had a personal best, and Eliza ran a new best as well. I was just really pleased today with the effort the ladies showed, and I think we're going to be a lot better at the meets still to come."

Corban's fifth-place finish trailed only team champion and hosts Western Oregon University (33 points), Simon Fraser University (48), Portland State University (71), and Seattle University (98). The result marked another encouraging outing for the Warriors, who placed four runners among the race's top 40 finishers and packed their scoring five within less than a minute of each other.

Junior Carrie Babcock led the Warriors by crossing the finish line in 19:43.05 to claim 32nd overall. Freshman Adelynne Rispler was close behind in 34th place with a time of 19:50.58, while sophomore Amelia Anstrand added a 36th-place finish in 20:01.27. Sophomore Adaline McDowell continued Corban's strong front pack by placing 39th in 20:08.21, and junior Emalie Lindberg rounded out the Warriors' scoring five with a 45th-place effort in 20:33.52.

Additional Corban finishers included junior Josie Rothman in 43rd place at 20:27.75, freshman Alannah Woizeschke in 57th at 21:28.34, junior Madyson Combs in 68th at 22:13.32, senior Johnna Cooley in 73rd at 22:37.74, and freshman Eliza Fraley in 78th with a time of 22:58.37.

The individual race title went to Simon Fraser's Raiya Matonovich with a winning time of 17:43.85. Western Oregon's Kyla Potratz (17:53.97) and Adele Beckstead (18:04.33) followed in second and third, while Simon Fraser's Veronica Dee (18:14.84) and Pacific's Ria Gill (18:15.59) rounded out the top five finishers.

Friday's performance demonstrated the depth of the Warrior roster as Corban continued to build momentum early in the season. With multiple runners establishing new personal-best marks and the team delivering a much tighter scoring pack as opposed to in their season-opening meet, the Warriors showed continued progress.

Corban will return to action on October 3rd when the Warriors compete in the Willamette Invitational at Bush Park, continuing preparations for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships later this fall.
