SACRAMENTO, Calif. – An emphatic 5-0 sweep over NCAA DI University of Portland for the second time this season allowed the No. 2-ranked Corban University Beach Volleyball team to rebound from a Friday afternoon loss before the host Hornets from NCAA DI Sacramento State University extracted a 4-1 revenge win against the Warriors after the Dubs handed them a 4-1 loss in Salem earlier this season.
"We played well this morning against UP with really nice temperatures but struggled against Sac State when the heat rose this afternoon," Warriors' head coach Dan Stephens detailed. "We went three sets in three of the pairs with Sac State and came away with a win in one of them. We fought hard, but we will need to make some continued improvements to be ready for the last half of our conference matches."
Against the Pilots (4-7), the Navy and Gold picked up straight-set sweep in every pairing with the exception of the threes, where redshirt sophomore Allyson Reid and sophomore Gabi Engels shook off a second set loss to claim a dominant 15-7 third set clincher. The most dominant result of the dual came in the fours where redshirt junior Erin Scott and freshman Emily Blagg secured 21-9 and 21-8 set scores.
Corban beach volleyball's (14-3, 7-0) saw their top pairing of senior Emmi Marks and junior Emma Bischoff go undefeated on the day, capped off by a back-and-forth marathon against the Hornets' (8-5) No. 1-pairing of Reese Ampi and Ashlynn Archer. While the duo did accept their first head-to-head loss of the season yesterday against NCAA DI University of San Francisco, they rebounded today with impressive outings to move to 16-1 overall on the year.
