Corban Softball Contends with RV College of Idaho on Yotes’ Home Turf

CALDWELL, Idaho – The Corban University Softball team continues to push receiving-votes programs to the limit as they find their late-season groove in the circle, as the Navy and Gold dropped a narrow 2-0 decision to The College of Idaho before the Yotes overcame a 2-0 deficit of their own in game two for a doubleheader sweep behind an 8-2 final in the nightcap.

"Miranda pitched really well today, we just couldn't find that second hit we needed to plate some runs and get her a win," shared Warriors' head coach Jeff Covalt earlier today. "Tomorrow is a new day, and we look forward to running it back again."

A pair of single-run innings is all the Yotes (23-15, 8-9) needed to secure game one of their eventual day one doubleheader sweep on their home field, as the Warriors (5-27, 4-16) were able to keep within striking distance in the opener thanks to an exceptional start in the circle by sophomore right-hander Miranda Scovil, but the offense fizzled out whenever action on the basepaths started up each new frame. Scovil accepted the loss despite allowing just two earned runs across 6.0 innings on seven hits and two walks. Her opposition, starting pitcher Kina Watts of The College of Idaho, tossed a complete game shutout where she struck out three and allowed five base hits.

In game two, Scovil got the start again but was relieved in the fourth after allowing two earned runs off a single hit and walking four batters, giving way to senior reliever Amy Jankowski who accepted her first loss of the year behind six earned runs on six hits. Senior relief pitcher Kate Banks didn't allow a run in 1.1 innings pitched. Yotes' starter Drew Williams completed the 7.0-inning contest with two unearned runs on four hits.

The lone multi-hit outing of the day for Corban softball belonged to sophomore first baseman Mckenna Hanson who continued her breakout season with a 2-for-2 effort in today's opener. Hanson also scored a run in game two, while senior third baseman Leata Senio secured a base knock in both contests, the only Warrior batter to do so.

Five different Yotes secured multi-hit performances across today's doubleheader, led by leadoff hitter and centerfielder Kamryn Ham who was 2-for-3 with a game-high three RBI in the second matchup. Catcher Hallie Campbell and third baseman Chloe Flerchinger each tacked on two hits and two RBI from the bottom half of the home team's lineup.

The Navy and Gold close out their four-game series against C of I tomorrow, beginning at 10am PT with the final CCC counter followed by the 12pm non-conference matchup.
