PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 3-ranked Corban University Beach Volleyball program defeated NCAA DI University of Portland for the 13th and 14th consecutive matchups by snagging a 3-2 thriller before establishing an early lead and never looking back in a 4-1 regular season finale win this afternoon at the Tom and Meg Names Family Foundation Beach Volleyball Courts.
"Today was a good day for the team to get some reps in against DI pairs, and show us some areas that need improvement," Corban head coach Dan Stephens shared. "We were able to rest a couple of pairs and allow some of our other duos to get some time in the sand, and it worked out well."
The Navy and Gold (24-7) were able to pick up wins in seven of the ten flights today across their doubleheader with the Pilots (4-17), with three of those victories coming in straight-sets as the Warriors utilized today's regular season finale as an opportunity to tie up any loose ends before their national title run begins later next week.
Junior Jordan Faircloth and sophomore Rebecca Wilber were the only Corban duo to go 2-0 this afternoon, snagging one of the program's two-set sweeps before rallying to reverse sweep Portland's Michela Strati and Nyah Mitchell in the second dual. Stephens rested both his top and third pairings in alternating duals, as senior Alexis Adebodun and junior Cammie Masanda played up a flight in the twos during the opener to snag a 21-14 and 21-17 sweep while senior Emmi Marks and junior Emma Bischoff returned to their spot atop the Corban lineup with a thrilling 21-18, 23-25, and 15-10 victory over Pilots' top duo consisting of Leonie Freytag and Elin Larsson.
