Lerten Leads Corban Men’s Golf Through Opening Round of Tournament of Knights

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University Men's Golf reserve team opened competition at the Tournament of Knights on Monday, navigating the challenges of Glendoveer Golf Course against a field of four teams from two other schools in the Pacific Northwest. The Warriors concluded the opening round with a team score of 323 to land in fourth as a squad and will look to climb the leaderboard when play resumes on Tuesday.

"Kudos to Colby coming in at 78 today, which is awesome to see," began Corban head coach Charlie Marshall. "We left a lot of strokes out there today but tomorrow is a new day with endless possibilities. It was a good outing for the first time being together, and we gained a lot of experience both in our play and the course knowledge, specifically knowing when to hit driver and when not to, so all good things accomplished."

Freshman Colby Lerten paced the Navy and Gold in the first round, carding a 78 to lead all Corban scorers. Lerten turned in one of the steadiest rounds of the day for the Warriors, helping anchor the team's effort on the challenging Portland layout.

Close behind was sophomore Brendan Barbeau, who posted an 81 in the opening round. Redshirt senior Brock Nelson added an 80, while redshirt freshman Cavan Visser contributed an 87. Freshman Owen Deese rounded out the Corban team lineup with an 84 as the Warriors battled through a competitive tournament field. Redshirt freshman Lucas Savage is competing as an individual this week and carded a 92 in the opening round.

Among the tournament leaders, Olympic College's "A" squad and Warner Pacific University's "A" team each posted team scores of 300 to share the top spot after 18 holes. Olympic's Addman Argon fired a field-leading 73, while Warner Pacific's Micah Chadwick, Olympic's KJ Bentz, and Warner Pacific's Braylon Yamada all found themselves near the top of the individual leaderboard following strong opening rounds.

The Warriors will return to the course Tuesday morning for the tournament's final round, seeking to make a move up the standings and close the event on a strong note before the Corban men's golf program resumes its fall schedule later next month at the CU Warrior Classic, hosted by the Navy and Gold at Stone Creek Golf Club in Oregon City on October 3rd and 4th.
