Lerten Finishes Top Five as Warriors Place Fifth at Tournament of Knights

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University Men's Golf reserve squad concluded play at the Tournament of Knights on Tuesday, shaving 10 strokes off its opening-round score to post a 313 in the final round at Glendoveer Golf Course. The Warriors finished the two-day event in fifth place overall with a team total of 643, competing against four teams from host Warner Pacific University and Olympic College.

"Our guys were better focused today and more confident in their swings, demonstrated by a team improvement of 10 strokes," Corban head coach Charlie Marshall detailed. "Colby was our leader through our two days in Portland and Cavan had the biggest improvement from round one to two."

After opening the tournament with a 323 on Monday, Corban responded with a more consistent effort during the final round. Warner Pacific "A" captured the team title with a tournament score of 596, followed by Olympic College "A" at 603. Warner Pacific "B" (622) and Olympic College "B" (629) rounded out the teams ahead of the Warriors in the final standings.

Freshman Colby Lerten paced the Navy and Gold throughout the event, turning in a final-round 74 after opening with a 78 to finish with a two-round total of 152. His four-stroke improvement on Tuesday vaulted him into a tie for fifth overall, marking the highest finish among Corban competitors.

Sophomore Brendan Barbeau followed with a tournament total of 161 after carding rounds of 81 and 80. Redshirt senior Brock Nelson improved by one stroke in the final round to finish with a 165 (80-85), while redshirt freshman Cavan Visser closed the tournament at 173 following rounds of 87 and 86. Freshman Owen Deese rounded out the Warrior scoring lineup with a 165 after trimming three strokes from his opening-round score on Tuesday. Competing as an individual, redshirt freshman Lucas Savage posted rounds of 92 and 86 to finish the event at 178.

At the top of the leaderboard, Olympic College's Adrian Aragon earned medalist honors with a two-round score of 145 after following an opening-round 73 with a final-round 72. Warner Pacific's Braylon Yamada finished runner-up at 146, while a pair of Warner Pacific competitors and Olympic's KJ Bentz shared third place at 150.

The Warriors' reserve group wrapped up a productive showing in Portland, highlighted by Lerten's top five performance and a 10-stroke team improvement from round one to round two. Corban's entire men's golf squad will return to action on Saturday, October 3rd when they're set to host the CU Warrior Classic at Stone Creek Golf Club in Oregon City.
